Being a supportive friend is the best thing you can do.

Being an understanding, caring ear to listen is great. If you could, maybe give her a break from baby, let her enjoy some ME time. But honestly, just being there would be helping

I think what you do is good; just listen and tell her she’s doing great is very important. A fractious child who’s difficult to settle can be taking a lot of energy and draining. If you want to do more you could maybe offer to look after her little one for a hour or so and she can do something for herself.

Just listen – I got so bloody sick of people telling me their stories, and offering advice.. My son slept for 2-3 hours in 24 hours for the first four months of his life. It was a nightmare. You do doubt yourself. Show her our responses to your question… The only advice I remember is from my cousin “it is stages not ages with babies and children” This still is my mantra!

You are a good friend in trying to help and in this stress related society it can be very hard to cope . My sister in law ( on hub side ) has two children who has anxiety and in her case genetics are part of it as she is a sufferer herself and is always finding it hard to make decisions etc. If your friend has a serious case, perhaps suggest if she would like you to go to a doctor with her as she may need a psychologist to help her with coping skills especially if her worries are intense which can affect her sleep. decision making , diet etc.. I am sure she appreciates your help and hope she gets the right support .
