Hello!

“Can I ask the MoM community for help. My 23 month old son has difficulty pooing. The doctor has advised me to add Lactulose to his drink to loosen his stools but he still does rabbit pellet poos. Last night was so distressing, he was so constipated that he vomited twice tying to pass it and when he finally did it was an adult sized monster poo and was in instant relief. Can anyone offer advice on how to keep him regular? Thanks in advance!” How can you get a 2 month old to be regular?

  • Yes, increase the amount of water and make sure that there’s enough fiber in the diet from fruit and vegetables. I swear by Osmolax instead of lactulose. Another thing what I did is daily belly massage.

  • Try and increase water consumption add much as possible, reduce sugar intake and increase fibre from wholegrains and veggies. But when you increase fibre you also need to increase water intake.

  • You need to look at his diet. Too much diary, carrots ,banana can cause constipation. Try prune or pear juice. Dried fruit, tinned pears or fresh pear. Increase water. Increase more insoluble fibre eg multigrain bread ,peas, corn, baked beans

  • I’m going through this now with my 8 month old! The suggestions here have been great.

  • Prune juice works wonders and plenty of water

  • More fibre and more water, bananas, green beans, prunes and oats

  • i hope it got better. DId you end up trying homeopathy?

  • try some prune juice diluted with some water in his drink. It was recommended to me by a paediatrician and worked wonderfully

  • Could be cows milk if he is having that – my daughter had trouble when we started her on regular milk. Otherwise carefully monitor his diet and make sure to include lots of high fibre foods. I also give some juice – either berry or prune juice diluted with water to help her not to get constipated.

  • i hope it has gotten better

  • Hope you managed to find the answer you were looking for.

  • What did you end up doing?

  • Olive oil, 2 teaspoons a day mixed with his food. Is what the doctor said for our 21 month old daughter

  • Prunes have always worked for my daughter. I hope you find relief soon.

  • Even try a few prunes if he will eat them.

  • How is your son going?

  • Any luck with any of the suggestions below?

  • This is not uncommon in young children. Try to make sure he is getting plenty of fluids.

  • We use infant coloxal occasionally and infant movical for our 20 month old daughter and seems to be working for her. (Sorry not sure how to spell them of the top of my head)

  • Thanks heaps for posting, was also wondering. :P
