I used one of the things that you put over there heads so that their face is protected from the water. In the end they give up on wanting to use it. You can get them from the chemist…not sure what they are called.

There are some kind of eye shield like a visor that kids can hold on their head so the water doesn’t get in their eyes. Pretending to play ‘hair salons’ is sometimes fun and works.

I had to talk my daughter through it at that age

My 5yr old has Down Syndrome and she freaks when I wash her hair. It’s literally as if a piggie is being slaughtered and she flies everywhere through the bath. She’s strong as and I can hardly hold her.
Somethings that can help;
*make a social story about washing hair or watch a video on youtube kids about washing hair
*stick step by step pictures on the bathroom wall
*buy a kids brimmed shower cap
*be gentle patient and understanding
*step in bath with your little one and let them wash your hair/poor cups of water over your head
*have her laying on her back and do floating exercises like in the pool in an undeep bath; I’ve done this lately myself and found this work actually very good.

I was going to suggest goggles. Sounds silly but might just work.

I’ve seen on eBay a shower hat which allows their hair to be washed while the brim keeps the water and suds out of their eyes.

There is a way if she wants to try and wash her hair in the bath tub . she can sit down on a small stool with her back facing the tub , or she can be in the tub and just wash her hair when she is upright . My mother insisted us on washing our hair under the laundry tap when we were younger as she said it is cleaner than using bathwater .

that is a good idea about the googles lol. i just give the kids a face washer on their forehead so water doesn’t get in their eyes.

A dry face washer, and close the eyes for 10 seconds until the hair is nicely rinsed.

Have you tried hopping under the shower and washing your with some non stinging the eyes shampoo such as Johnsons and let her see that it does not hurt and makes mummy feel nice and clean and it is fun.

We tried everything from bribery to surprise attacks on our son, he still won’t let us do it, but he will do it himself if he’s allowed to have a shower, the shower has a handheld attachment (I got a cheep one at the hardware they just screw on) he can control where & when the water goes, it’s a battle to get him out of the shower now, but things are never perfect and he’s super squeaky clean

Get her to wash her dolls hair in the bath asking her to make sure the dolls head is looking up to the ceiling when rinsing .. After a few times practice with the baby doll she will be more willing to try herself .. and remind her if she looks up to the ceiling with her eyes closed you promise it won’t get in her eyes ..and lots of praise .. Counting with her to 10 helps too .. I use and spout bucket to rinse this controls where the water flow goes .. Good luck

I use Johnsons baby shampoo (gentle on eyes formula). My little one doesn’t love it either, I just try and be both gentle and quick as possible.

Mine was the same but now she loves it as I use more natural cleansers and soaps so doesn’t hurt her eyes.. Maybe try that?? Good luck!

My son does the same thing. We put a face washer over his eyes get him to tilt his head back and I put my hand on his hair line to stop water going down, he will still cry and carry on but its not as bad if we get the water in his eyes. I also only washing his hair maybe 1-2 times a week. So most baths are nice and calm.

Maybe take her to the shops and get her to pick the shampoo? Get her to smell them and pick one she likes?

We don’t know why but one of ours dislikes having her head touched at all. It is a real drama cleaning her ears at all – not near the canal either. She screams every time she has her hair washed and towel dried. She hates the hair dryer even more. She has very sensitive hearing and sometimes us when she reckons the TV is too loud. I don’t know whether ear plugs would help. One toddler I know had what they call “glue ear” and had to have grommets in his ears. They come out on their own when they have done their job. I would try washing her hair before her face. The damp flannel somebody suggested is a fantastic idea. We tried laying her in a slightly raised position in the bath. Not easy though.

My daughter does too unless I fold a face washer in 1/2 & put it on her forehead so when she tilts her head back her face doesn’t get wet
