As soon I realise I have a telemarketer on the phone I hang up with “no thanks you and have a nice day” and then block the number

I just say no thank you. I rarely get any nuisance calls, but I also do not have a landline. Remember they are the ones phoning you and you are not obliged to engage with them at all.

Add your number to the don’t call list

On my mobile, I block them. On the home phone, I have caller ID, if I don’t know the number I don’t answer

Easy, you just say you are not interested and hang up! They are so annoying!

It has reached the point where I just don’t answer my phone. If it’s someone I know they will leave me a message and I will call them back.

I am on the do not call register! Apparently certain categories are exempt. Charities and utilities are allowed. We have been plagued with solar panel people lately. I just say sorry mate we have already got them if it is a man and if it is a lady I say sorry sweetie we have them already , have a nice day and generally they say same to you and sorry to have troubled you.

Firstly, you need to sign up to the Do Not Call register. Secondly, do what I do, I have an answering machine and I use it to screen my calls. Telemarketers just hang up.

On my mobile, I can block callers, so any telemarketing calls I get……the numbers are blocked ASAP. Home phone I usually ignore, sometimes I just pick up and hang up, sometimes I pick up,and sit the phone on the bench and sometimes I answer. Listen to what they have to say, tell them I’m not interested/already have that and ask for my number to be crossed off their call list. They still happen mind you, can’t completely get rid of the., always new ones popping up

Hang up as soon as they start the spiel, and then block the number if they’ve called on a mobile. They soon get the picture.

Whatever you choose to do, it will take time. I’ve found the quickest way is to answer and say you already have whatever they’re selling. You can ignore the calls. You can try answering and just leaving the phone sitting on the bench. Give it to one of the kids for a chat. Answer and say you’re sick of their calls, if they don’t cross you off their call list, you’ll report them…..

We ended up getting rid of our landline and it’s the best thing we ever did. Before that I would be polite, but firm. They always had a knack of ringing around dinner time so I would say thanks but we’re busy at the moment and not interested in their offer. Don’t give them a chance to speak

I tried the “please remove my phone number from your database” on various occasions.
I also asked where they got my phone number from a few times as I have a silent number for my landline. I don’t bother with calls on my mobile phone that show as private number or no number at all. I don’t have voicemail on it either. If I feel threatened I call out a couple of guy’s names. The caller usually hangs up very quickly. I don’t let the little ones answer the phone, especially as I got a couple with obsene language – that’s when calling out guy’s names comes in very handy. If you start getting a lot of nuisance calls, you can arrange for them to be traced. I had it done when somebody was hanging up straight after I spoke. They traced it but wouldn’t tell me who it was. I suspect the person/people were given a warning. I now have both my landline and my mobile phone on the “do not call register”.

Try joining the do not call register.

Having worked for a week at a charity, i was advised they can still call and so can scammers.

Advised them you want to be taken off their call list (each company has its own system)

If your in the mood, put on a childs voice or an actual child and run them around (i had this with easy meals)

Answer and put the phone down somewhere
Do some heavy breathing or somethung to freak them out

(has to be from the phone you are registering and yes you can register mobiles too) or do it online here http://www.donotcall.gov.au however if it is a charity or unfortunately a scam, it won’t stop them. In that case just answer and pretend you are from a phone company and they will not call back. (eg Thanks for calling Telstra, how can I help you today?)

I am on the do not call register. Only problem it does not stop charities calling. If there is a silence when you answer the phone it usually means an unwanted call so I hang up straight away. I have pretended to be an idiot on occasion asking stupid questions just for fun when the mood takes me – they usually hang up then.

Now that you talk about kids answering the phone, I remember the son of one friend (13 years old or so at the time) answering the phone. It was a company and they wanted to talk to his mom. He told them “Sorry, she died”. They never phoned back! 🙂 And my friend (the mother) was there laughing and thinking how clever he was! 😉

Friend of mine used to give the phone to her 4 year old to answer these calls! I used to tell them to call back as I am busy every time they call.

I get these stupid calls from them. its very frustrating.
