  • I have blankets and throws all over the house. Onesies are surprisingly warm, and the kids love them.

  • Close your curtains. If you can, close up some areas of the house so you have a smaller area to keep warm. Block draughts, eg snakes for under doors. Extra clothing. Snuggle under a blanket and watch movies

  • Extra layers of clothing is our solution and saves so much on heating bills.

  • A thick throw does wonders to warm you up and good winter jumpers!

  • Cook using the oven more.

  • Some great answers in here, what a great question! Good to think about with Autumn coming up quickly.

  • A few years back I bought an electric throw rug/blanket. I sit under it with my children on really cold days or nights. Polar fleece blankets are also super warm.

  • Im lucky where we are living now, we have a wood fire which heats the whole home amazingly. as we live in the country we have an endless amount of dry wood to burn. Before this we had a heat pump which can tend to be expensive, but it would be left on one temperature of 18 degrees. this wouldnt keep the house toasty warm, but it would be enough to take the chill off the place. electic blankets and heat packs were my next best friend to warm the beds up before bed. and i have an endless amounts of blankets and doonas, so whist at home and we were on the couch watching tv etc. we would all just throw a doona over us on those very cold days/nights.

  • Rolled towels for gaps under doors. Thick curtains. Chunky jumpers. Snuggle on the couch under doonas. Get everyone outside for an activity, inside seems a whole lot warmer after being out in the cold. Hot chocolate. Slow cooked casseroles.

  • I Rug up and wash the dishes! The kids don’t feel the cold.

  • Also; snuggies and warm clothes at other times and cook using the oven as it warms the house.

  • I received a onesie as a present and oh my goodness; it is so warm during winter!

  • got to rug up and get those snake things for drafts. make sure the seals on your windows are still good. shut the house up and shut off rooms that aren’t being used

  • During the day rug up in warm clothes. We only use our heater of a night. Having a bath or shower helps the circulation going and warms you up.

  • all the above ideas sound good, plenty of blankies, hot chocolate and tea :)

  • hot soup and thick dressing gowns

  • Socks, slippers, warm hotchocolate and hotwater bottles in the bed

  • socks, singlets and blankets as well as good heavy curtains and draft stoppers at the doors

  • Onsies!! I may look like an exceptionally rotund ladybug, but I cannot live without my onsie. All the family have them. No need for electric blanket and keeps you so warm that the heater is rarely used (and we live in a cold cold place). Downside ……. midnight toilet runs in minus 5!

  • A hearty meal and rugging up! We have a blanket on the lounge for when we watch TV so don’t need to turn the heater on.
