Hello!

My daughter picked up COVID from a school camp (along with about 15 others… lovely). She’s 8 and thus far no one else in the household has it (we also have a four year old). We’re isolating her in her room as best we can and going in with masks to try and keep her company. Her 4 yo sibling has to stay away. She’s home all day obviously. Has anyone else had to manage just one of their kids with COVID and any tips on how to manage isolation without making them feel bad?

  • I think anything under teenager would be hard to keep them isolated. We all ended up with it from our toddler and was much easier than trying to isolate anyone. I feel for you!

  • That sounds way easier than trying to deal with kids having covid while the adults also have covid.

  • I have had to do this with my miss 6 yrs and my 20yr old pregnant daughter. My miss 6yrs didn’t understood why she couldn’t go near her sissy but it hurt her heart. I allowed her 2 x a day to step just at the end of the hallway with her sister at the other end blowing kisses in the morning as she exits for work and again at night time. Night time they sat at opposite ends for 10 min talking about their day. ????. Small things will get em through it. Best of luck.

  • When my daughter tested positive, I gave her the freedom to do all the tv watching, art making, vegging put she normally is too busy for.
If she exited her room, she wore a mask and we used antibacterial wipes on communal surfaces.

  • mom489680 that is weird indeed, you were lucky !

  • My daughter had Covid, got it from school and we all had to isolate obviously..we decided as a family to be open about it and just let it be, I do think it was a risk but, my husband could’nt stay away from work more than the 7 days so we went on normal..hugged my daughter and played with all the kids, as if we would rather get covid earlier then later, but after 7 days in iso non of us got covid .My daughter tested negative on the 7th day.How weird is that? Thought the two boys will get it from her but we are thankful that it did not happen.

  • Not myseld, but my support worker isolated with her one children that had it and kept strict hygiene measures, she didn’t get it herself

  • It’s just a hit and miss, my partner had it for 4 days before my son and I tested positive. My in-laws both have it but their son hasn’t managed to get it.

If you are spending some time with her, could it be outside? Might lessen the risk

  • My 7yo son got Covid from school but he’s such a snuggly, social little boy I couldn’t isolate him as I don’t think he would have coped well mentally. In the end we did all get it but luckily none of my four kids got very sick. One was completely asymptomatic, one got a headache mild fever for a few hours, one a slightly runny nose and my teenager had cold/flu-like symptoms for a couple of days. Its so hard but I guess you need to do what works for your family.
