Hello!

“I’ve stopped breast feeding after 18.5months. I’m on day 5 of not feeding and my breasts are still sore. I’d like to know how long it took for other mothers for their milk to dry up and how long will the pain last? Thanks”

  • Suddenly stopping will always cause engorgement and pain. It’s better to decrease slowly and drop feed per feed or shorten feeds gradually. You might need to express sometimes (that way you can still use this liquid gold) or when you’re under the shower stroke your breasts towards the nipple and let the milk flow away.

  • I reduced babies feeds gradually over time, that way I had minimal engorgement and pain

  • about 6 weeks is what it took for mine and that is what the nurses told me to expect – it can take a little bit less or longer depending on your body.

  • make sure you wear tight bras …

  • cabbage leaves stuffed into your bra works wonders, uncomfortable but when you are in pain its worthwhile.

  • I’m not sure everyone some but for me it about 2 weeks to dry up and pain too.

  • Its good to know these answers as well as I have stopped feeding my twins at 17.5 months and the right one is fine but the left one I still leak

  • Make sure you wear a very tight bra. And don’t stimulate the breast.

  • Hope things worked out well for you with so much of useful advice

  • I went on the pill to dry it up! No pain at all

  • I think its about a month.Keep a good bra on even at night, it might help the process and the discomfort.

  • the pain usually goes after a few days as your milk ducts are so full…wear breast pads and it should go within 2-3 weeks. depending how often you were feeding for

  • it seems about a month is normal.

  • to fully stop, nearly a month.
