How long until your milk supply stops after you cease breastfeeding?

Hello!

I breastfed four children between 12 months and 19 months each. I stopped feeding baby four about 18 months ago, but my breasts still produce milk. In fact, since having my first child 14 years ago, my milk supply has never completely dried up. It’s not causing me any pain or problems, but is it normal to still have milk when you’re not feeding a baby? Have other MoM’s experienced this?

I’ve heard of some people going months and being still able to feed. As long as it’s not hurting you you should be fine

PIF sends the signal to your brain that the milk isn’t needed and gradually shuts down milk production. If you’re not breastfeeding or pumping, it typically takes seven to ten days after delivery to return to a non-pregnant/non-lactating hormonal level.

Not for this long… it’s a bit odd. I know it’s not worrying you, but have you mentioned it to a doctor?

i don’t know exactly but a few months later my boobs felt a bit deflated lol tmi!

My mum said she produced milk for years after my brother and I were born. I however would dry up within weeks of weaning.

As far as I was aware mine stopped totally about a month after finishing but I know when I was pregnant, towards the end of pregnancy I started to leak.
