For me, I’ve always spent up to $250. I only have 1 kid, and they would also be getting presents from the extended family. I see so many posts on Facebook with kids getting so many presents and many don’t get played with, or minimal use.

On average we spend about $50 per person.

I spend about $50 on a “big” present for each kid; $20 each for small presents from sibling to sibling; and maybe $50 on Santa gifts.

Our extended family has agreed to limit Christmas spending to make it easier on all of us.

I have five children so l need to spend an equal amount but l have a budget l stick too when it comes to other family members.l think you need to spend what you can and don’t go by what other people spend!

We usually have a set budget which covers presents and food. We no longer buy for the adults in the family and just all bring a few plates to lunch instead, then only have our daughter and a niece and nephew to buy for. $20 on niece and nephew presents and $100-150 on our daughter.

We budget and try and stick to $500-600 per year. Last year we managed to get creative and only spent $400.00.

We usually limit it to $100 per child and then for family we do $50 for Nieces/Nephews (we only have 3) and then for the adults we do a Kris Kringle with a $100 amount so you get something decent rather than lots of little token gifts you don’t ever use or really want.

I spend $500 combined on my boys Christmas presents each year, sometimes more depending on age etc.

Last year I went overboard and spent over $500 on my son.
This year, I’m spending $187.
Food wise, we have ordered chrisco and family, I don’t buy for as the greatest gift is being together

We do not have a budget for presents as such, but for all our grandchildren we have adopted the practice since they have recognised money that we give them a stocking with chocolates in it and a Christmas card with $50 each, they all look forward to the money, and budget for it, I think if we actually bought presents it would cost us more and they would be disappointed because they like going shopping in January, my husband and myself do not buy each other presents because we buy anything we want during the year, if there is something we want for our home we may purchase that but other than that we do not bother. and just enjoy the time with family,

We dont set a budget – especially since our kids often get milestone presents or gifts they need. This year my teen mostly opened clothes and a few tickets, whereas my babies got a $2,000 cubby to share. But when the teen started high school she got an iPad for school and the little ones got Fisher price toys. We don’t try to keep it even, we try to keep it appropriate to their life stages. It will all average out in the end

We have decided to spend even less next Christmas.

For my family, one daughter, I spent less than $100 on gifts + $200 for food. Not much.

Christmas is about so much more than the money spent. We teach our children the value of family, love and kindness. We also teach them about the traditions and meaning of Christmas.

Everyone is given $50 per person to spend. The challenge is to come in under this amount. It teaches everyone about budgeting. We do not spend up big at Christmas time. Leftover money is put into a holiday fund. We always come in under budget.

We are skint, so spend $15 max on presents for family children. We have two of our own and we don’t spend more than $30 on them each. I cook Christmas treats for the adults in the family.

For my 3 kids I spend probably about $100 each. They usually get 2 presents and a sack filled with little bits and pieces. I am finding that as they get older they just don’t play with toys a lot so I’m leaning more towards giving them experiences – cinema, play centre, museum or zoo passes etc.

We buy for our parents and nieces and nephews but not for our siblings. We only spend about $15 each on our nieces and nephews but with quite a few of them this adds up quickly.

We do a secret Santa with all the kids an adluts makes it a lot better an u don’t need to buy much this way

Tough question – we tend to spend less and Christmas and more for birthdays. We try to get something that our son really wants and then some small gifts (always get a few books, fun things in his stocking torch, lego people, stickers, etc).

This year for my nieces and their families I decided to organise a photo shoot for our little boys instead of gifts (they are all 1 or under).
