Hello!

Hi mums , I have very dry skin and open pores. My skin is so dry that sometimes it peels… If I put creams and lotion on it can clog my pores as they are so open so I am pretty much at my wits end. Do you have any ideas to help me please?

  • Have you tried a hydrating mist like Avene and maybe take avocado or honey to help?

  • If it is very bad , you may need to brands such as QV or Dermaveen found at chemists which is made for dry sensitive skin . Of course they are dearer . Otherwise , try organic brands such as Sukin , or Trilogy etc as they don’t contain any harsh ingredients. Maybe pop into Priceline as they always have testers so you can try before you buy .

  • my suggestion is to trial products! find the right one that moisturises and doesn’t break you out. maybe use a combination. try a deep cleansing, moisturising mask once a weak. help remove impurities and shrink pores. cleanse and tone. toning helps to close pores. Have cool baths or showers as steam opens pores. Try to buy a night cream and a day cream.

  • Some skin problems you have as a baby can come back in a different way later in life. Some do not get it back until they are 40+. My Mum had a skin problem which got progressively worse when she was about 40 and went to a dermatologist, got no satisfactory advice or treatment so she went to another one. At one stage her skin got so dry you could literally see it peeling off and find patches of it on the floor. She had an allergic reaction to several medications – oral and applied to skin – that made it even harder to treat. One medication that worked really well and she only had to take occasionally, they changed some of the ingredients – a few months later it disappeared completely – no longer available by prescription. From there she tried numerous prescription creams, ointments etc. and other remedies including organic with limited success. In her late 80s she devloped other illnesses and had to go into care. They used synthetic sheets on their beds which she was allergic to. It was at that point it spread to multiple red dry weeping patches which were diagnosed as Golden Staph. It affected other organs which failed at age 90.

  • I get very dry on my face also and am struggling to find something to help. Makes it difficult when i do want to war make up as it just looks dry and flaky

  • First suggestion, try closing those pores, have you tried toner? Then I would suggest a very mild moisturiser

  • I go in bth get clean and rub baby oil in my skin, a mini massage all over in bath then lay in it a while to cover all areas. Then let water out before you get out and pat not rub myself dry. Also apply when go to bed, do feet as well. If it is good for babies reason good for me and it works and is ot costly

  • Back again,I’m 48 discovered I had psoriasis at 20, thought I had dry skin, the cells overproduce ,was wondering if this is really your problem. It is hereditary, doesn’t come out until your 20’s,I had it bad on my knees,if you pick the skin it is red ,dry & itchy, just discovered a few years ago goats milk soap.washing yourself when you shower with it in affected areas cured my skin, can get some for a couple of dollars,I have sensitive skin, maybe worth looking at.

  • I would buy a dove moisturiser for dry skin & apply directly after you shower & your pores are still open.

  • Do you drink a lot of water? It’s meant to help hydrate the skin too.

  • Bathe in Cetaphil, it is miracle stuff.
Speak to your pharmacist about skin products that could work for you or make an appointment with a dermotologist.
You can buy a lot of over the counter products but it really comes down to trial & error. Hopefully a pharmacist will be able to offer you some great products to help, good luck.

  • Helps to keep up water intake as this can not help dry skin ,use Rosehip oil ,seems to help me .

  • I would suggest a oil free moisturiser, or a moisturiser for oily skin. I would also recommend using a exfoliating scrub a couple of times a week and toner to close your pores.

  • Have you tried natural products, like coconut oil? It may not clog your pores like lotions, and it is very good for your skin. I have very dry skin in Winter but I am able to use most moisturisers without any problems.
