Your baby isn’t old enough to know what the fuss is all about. Just have a casual family and relatives meal with a birthday cake. Just an afternoon tea would be suitable. Ask a few close friends if you want to. Your baby may be overwhelmed having too many people around at the same time. You need to think about that too…..and any allergies your baby has needs to be addressed. e.g. fabric that could come into contact with baby’s sensitive skin, medications that leech out of a person’s skin e.g. Iboprufen or Panadol.
Bub won’t remember it, but it is an occasion, so just invite family and close friends. Ask them to bring a plate each. Catering done. Balloons streamers and umpteen other things available from the shops for decorations
For my son’s first bday, we took a cake and friends to a placentae
My son had only started to walk and had a great time, playing with all the toys and family
No clean up and it only cost for the kids to get in!
For my daughter’s first birthday we went to a local park. There was cake, chips, lollies, cupcakes, mars bar slice, cheerio hotdogs, dips, biscuits, waters and soft drinks. Some balloons and streamers but nothing excessive.
Everyone either brought a chair or a picnic blanket and we sat around, ate, drank and unwrapped presents. The few kids that were there were able to run around the park so they were entertained. It was easy.
Keep it simple and plan ahead! A good idea is a drink station so that you don’t stand in the kitchen making cuppas! Also, a couple of different small cakes rather than one big one, as selection is often well received! I’m an event planner so I know I have to up the anti, but keeping it simple is so much more stress free!
Keep it simple. Maybe try an afternoon tea, we finger foods and a yummy cake. Maybe a few simple party games for the older children you may invite, because at the end of the day your one year won’t really know any different.
I have found for my kids birthday were by some chicken breast(with two to threeskin free breasts) cut up into small thin strips out put it onto a small half size skewer and cover in a honey soy marinade and cook on the bbq. We have a coleslaw and a large green salad (with tomatoe, cheese and onion) and bread for the adults and have some cocktail franks, sausage rolls for the kids. we also have chips, popcorns, cheese crackers and dip.etc for nibbles. Since we started this there is little stress as you can prepare it all the night before and keep in the fridge other than the cooking and heating of the food. This feed 15-25 people no problem. Hope this helps
I’m arranging a teddy bear’s picnic at a park for my second daughter’s 1st birthday. We’re going to invite close family and friends with children and ask that their children bring along a teddy.
