  • We had a small party with family and close friends for each of my children. I picked a theme and made everything to reduce costs. We had Mickey Mouse, the very hungry caterpillar and cars.

  • I invited out family over and it was a big family bash. He had a really nice bday cake which we kinda did as a smash cake and took lots of photos of him in his cute bow tie. Really fun!

  • yeah we just have backyard parties while they are littlies

  • We have big family celebrations for our kids first birthdays. Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, cousins, close neighbours and a couple of little friends. I think the focus should be on family at these events

  • We had family, a BBQ in the backyard with family, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents etc

  • We had a small party with adults and kids. We had a small jumping castle in the garden for the kids, there was food.. A relaxing and simple atmosphere.

  • I always consider the child as with my first I did go big but my little one was overwhelmed. Lovely day but he got scared with happy birthday being sung to him.

  • Yes,it’s time to celebrate,a pretty girly theme for girls, pink or colours, blue for boys & a boyish theme or animal theme for boys.Masks or hats are fun ,balloons streamers a special birthday cake ,lollies, even just party pies fairy bread ,sausage rolls chips & dip,a fruit platter.

  • As a member of a mothers group we had all the mums and kids over for a small party finger food etc ( No Presents)as the kids were to small to enjoy it we have done this every year until kids started school, also for every following child. We also have a Family party every year where they are the centre of attention and so they should be its their birthday its amazing you made such a precious bundle of joy. Do only what you can afford but enjoy it as well, you dont need to do all the work but not have time to be part of it.(ask close family to bring a plate eg a salad etc) Once they get to school they expect the works……..

  • we had friends and family at a park, the kids were able to play, it was easy as we didn’t organise games and we had family bring a plate of nibblies, we still had a cake and made sure we got lots of photos but they don’t remember it so i don’t see the point of making a huge fuss over it

  • At 1, they will not know it is different to any other day so a party is more for the adults or older kids. With our 3, we have always marked the occasion with a family lunch and maybe a couple of family friends or Godparents. We’ve had a cake as it’s generally been their first taste of cake but that’s about it.

  • For our first daughter we had a mainly grown up party with a really nicely done cake. I think keeping it mainly family is probably the way to go and fairly small as the little one won’t really remember it and can’t really play any games. Mostly keep it simple.

  • 1st birthdays were always a family affair but we still made it a big deal.
At 1 the kids can not do much but the photo & video memories will last a life time.
We always got a beautiful cake & celebrated at home with a roast lunch/dinner or BBQ.

  • We had a pull string piñata so all the 1 year olds could pull the strings instead of hitting it

  • We had a party with mainly our adult friends and family. There weren’t many kids as it was more about us getting through the first year. Maybe do something for yourselves as the little one won’t remember it anyway. You will be having plenty of kids parties in the years to come.
