Hello!

Miss who is 3 this Saturday is a busy bee! She is full of beans from the time she wakes until bedtime (no day naps). If she is engaged in activities, she is pleasant and enjoyable…but if she is allowed to become bored, we are in for it! That’s when the mischief starts. Can’t really blame her – she is fiercely independent and will remain an only child. Looking for ideas for indoor activities as her dad has a back injury so is limited and I work to support us. She is not really in to TV (yay!) and although a few shows temporarily grab her attention, I don’t see this as a viable solution. How many activities is too many in a day!? Giving her activity after activity, whilst great for her, is exhausting for us! Any ideas? Advice? We give her crafty things to do with success and she loves joining in on errands etc but I am wondering what else we might try? Thanks in advance :)

  • Have you considered games? Like board games and card games and puzzles. My three year old grandson has lots of fun with games and they keep him engaged for quite a while

  • I have a very active boy so completely understand. My 2 year old loves being active outdoors. When this can’t happen I’ve started giving him Lego and play dog – this keeps him happy snd entertained for quite a while

  • what did you end up doing

  • there are some good comments here

  • Did you find some good ways to keep her busy?

  • I read on another site a lady had broken up her week into themed days.
So monday might be music, and there would be a number of music themed activities each week on a monday. Tuesday may be numbers, wednesday may be animals etc etc. THere was a mix of indoor and outdoor activities, and regular breaks for meals and snacks. It seemed like a great way to organise days and make sure the kids arent bored of the same thing every day.

  • Crafts? Painting, colouring, glueing etcetera

  • I hope you found some new relaxing activities :)

  • a busy book could help for some quiet activities. putting activities written on pop sticks in a jar to choose an activity may help with deciding what to do. play dates can be great too. if you have the time cooking with her. I make up extra things my boys can do for me whilst cooking as they can’t always help at such a young age. putting your ingredients in different bowls etc. they love sifting. playdough, puzzles. music can be a great tool. try some relaxing meditative type music and just get her to relax, concentrate on breathing etc.

  • A pet might be good as a certain portion of each day can be dedicated to its care. Outside play like a slide or jump-o-lene.

  • There are some really good ideas here.

  • how did it go? :)

  • How are you going with some of the suggestions below?

  • A piece of play equipment in the backyard. She will get her vitamin d and will tire her out and want to go to bed earlier.

  • How would you feel about getting her a crazy crab or two??? They are an easy to care for entertaining pets! Or get a little indoor herb garden going a few herbs in a couple of pots on the window sill is a start!

  • Put some music on for her to dance to or sing to. Puzzles are great too and take a while to do.

  • I hope you find a solution to your problem

  • Read books, draw pictures, paint, puzzles, there might be a few board games she could play, play dress ups. There are so many craft type things you could do with her, my kids love baking so getting them to measure and mix the ingredients is fun. Maybe start a garden, so you both can go weed, water and look after it together.

  • try to develop her imagination so she will play with her toys without the need for your interaction all the time. try not to let her depend on you for entertainment, independent play is great!

  • Can she help with cooking? Cake mixes? Or even pretend to cook while dad is cooking.
