Like any take away it really depends on what you choose. Some of the breads they use are full of sugar and some of the fillings fried or high in fat. Having said that there are definitely some healthy choices there. Just make sure you choose a multigrain bread and lean meat with salad.
Subway, Maccas, Red Rooster, or whatever you call them, they all fry in old oil, what they use for long period, which becomes dark and causes cancer. From my point of view non of them are good and healthy.
Yes and No.
Yes because it’s better than other takeaway options, providing you are careful with what type of bread and fillings.
No because it’s easy to have a foot long white bread roll with meatballs, loads of cheese and sauces and think it’s super healthy.
I think it can be. It all depends in what you choose though. just be mindful of the types of bread and sauces. Some of those Re going to have more sugar than others
We don’t buy out much, but might for a treat for the kids, so if its a choice between Macca’s or Subway -I’ll clearly take the Sub. My boys are happy to eat lettuce and carrot in their ham & cheese roll while I have a multigrain roll with chicken breast. I’m sure the bread has as much sugar as a Macca’s bun at least its not deep fried & has some fresh salad stuff too.
There are only really two bread types at Subway – white and regular brown bread, both of which are heavily processed. They advertise more, but all come from the same base, with different decorations on top. Likewise, the majority of the fillings are also processed. There are likely to be more economical and healthy independent sandwich options close by (although some of Subway’s new lunch specials seem competitive.)
Personally, I am not a big cold cut person, but am definitely a sandwich lover. So, if I went to Subway, I would go with the 6-inch whole-wheat Veggie Delight and then add Swiss cheese and avocado for a little protein and healthy fat; otherwise I would be starved too soon after finishing my meal.
White bread can be stodgy. so choose the wholemeal or multigrain. no to the mayo! load up on vegetables. Really its everything in moderation. enjoy a sub now and again.
I believe it depends on the type of bread and the fillings you choose.
I try to choose in season salad vegetables and grated cheddar chesse with either low fat mayonnaise or no dressing.
It also depends on your choice of drink
