Hello!

I booked my kids to have a semi-private lesson from the local tennis club during this COVID situation. They invoiced me the whole Term 3(6weeks) so I asked if I can pay by a lesson. First, they said [NO Because they are a small business…have to coaches, venues…] I understood that so I said we have postponed memberships until everything back to normal. I wasn’t bluffing. But they offered an arrangements for us to pay per lesson. So I gratefully accepted an offer. My son already owns his racquet but my daughter doesn’t so we asked them to rent one for her. They sais she can receive a complimentary racquet as a new member, my son who is a member since last October never offered. So I asked if my son can claim one as well. she responded as [we accommodate your family already a lot and it is costly if all member is given a racquet so I don’t order one for your son]
Is this right?
What do you feel if that happen to you?

  • I think you have every right to be upset about the free racquet, but if your children are happy at that tennis centre and there is no other problem, I would just let it go and enjoy the lessons. If you or your children are unhappy about other issues at the tennis centre, I would look for a different place for your children to have their lessons.

  • Having different rules for different customers is one thing but you’d think they’d keep the rules consistent within the same family – how confusing for you and the staff – sounds pretty unprofessional to me.

  • Your son should have received a free racquet if everyone else did. They are not being smart by alienating a customer. If your children do not enjoy their lessons, I would look for another tennis center.

  • If you pay by season and it is cancelled will they then pay refunds? They won’t be paying coaches if it is closed. The Mum isn’t asking for a free racquet for her son, she is asking if she can rent one.

  • Sounds like the free racquet is a real issue? or rather that some children got one but your son didn’t. I’m sure he feels very left out. Having a spare of any quality is always useful too. Did you realize at the time he was missing out ? (assuming that he was). What do they say now about how they give some children a racquet and not others. Perhaps there was some change of rules or to qualify for the racquet you need to do something else (and at the time he didn’t qualify). It seems separate to paying fees in advance etc. (but I guess could be part of their qualifying rules). What do they say happened back in October when he wasn’t given one?

  • Thank you everyone who answer my questions here
I appreciated all your opinions and time
But there is more to it
My bad that I couldn’t worded better on here which I never done something like this before.,but there is more to it…I am still feeling mistreated by them

Free racquets were offered to many kids (my son’s friends) even before my son joined and after. Its on website as well. In my believe it shouldn’t matter if you already own one or not.
Yes this COVID situation is bad especially small business but I don’t think it’s fair to ask full term fee during this time and see what happened in Vic now …tennis is cancelled.
They emailed they are offered invoice credit not refund.
thing bugging me the most is that she used the arrangement as an excuse to not give a racquet this is separate issue. Arrangements they offered to me I appreciated but they didn’t stated I will lose other entitlement.

  • Forgot to add – hope they enjoy the tennis lessons. Important to exercise and keep active within covid guidelines. :)

  • I think they have been accommodating under the current situation so I would be happy with the outcome.

  • I think you did alright out of the arrangement considering they changed their policy for you and gifted your daughter a racket. If that was me, I would be grateful. All the best :-)

  • If your son became a member before your daughter, I would find it ok. Rules change. But if they became members at the same time, I would feel a little let down.
On the other side they really helped you out a lot. So probably I would just accept the situation and move on.

  • You did well, pay as you go and a complementary racket for your daughter. They were very nice to you and they are doing it hard as many people would have pulled out all together. You just need to be thankful they are still there and you kids are still learning and having fun. Enjoy life!

  • As they became members at different times the offers are different. One racquet each is enough and on the upside no need to find storage for an extra racquet! Businesses are indeed doing it tough at this time and the racquet for new members is no doubt an incentive for new customers.

  • Thank you everyone for taking time to answer my q.I am very grateful.
I understand your opinion and I am thankful that they made arrangements for our family.

  • I would be happy with what they already offered. I think all businesses are doing it tough indeed at this time. Let’s help them !

  • I think I’d be happy with what I had achieved from the club in these hard times. They seem to be doing the right thing by you all things considered.

  • Everyone is doing it pretty tough at the moment. It sounds as if they have given you a good deal already in allowing you to pay per lesson. You’re not losing out on anything. The racquet that your daughter got is a bonus.

  • I think that they have changed their payment plan and offered a new racquet and perhaps you should be happy with that.

  • Well… I’d be annoyed, but it’s not unusual for “new member” offers to change, so although her explanation may be a bit random, I’d probably accept it.

  • Complementary gift- maybe ist something new thay are doing now to get clients.
