Hello!

What hot tips do you have to keep those nasty bugs away this time of year. I have been sick with the flu for 9 days now and I don’t want to be in this position again this winter if I can help it. Would love to hear what tips and tricks you have to help keep them away as much as possible.

  • I have caught a cold this year and don’t want to catch another. I do everything to keep germs to a minimum and yet still managed to catch a cold and then passed it on to my family. They recovered much quicker than I did, so I guess my immune system was not as strong as theirs. Boosting your (and your family’s) immunity with a nutritious diet and lots of bone broths would be my suggestion.

  • i have hand sanitisers hanging off the kids school bags, and my own purse, also in the car.
i have the kids in the habit of sanitisng their hands at school before food and whenever they feel they touched something dirty.
i cut up white onion slices and pop them in containters around the house (especially in bed rooms) i have been told onions suck up all them germs
i have my kids take daily vitC and fishoil

  • There are a few tablets that will help – vitamin C is good, garlic tablets and I’ve also used echinacea or horseradish ones that seemed to work wonders. The other thing is to eat a good healthy diet that has lots of vitamins in it already. Lots of colour on the plate with different veggies and fruits. The other thing is being fit and healthy. Keeping exercise going, even when it is a bit cold, tends to help you not get sick as often and when you do, it’s generally not as bad and you recover quickly.

  • We all take multivitamins. The kids know as soon as they get home (from anywhere at all) they take their shoes off at the door and go to wash their hands before touching anything else inside. We stock up on plenty of citrus fruits (vitamin C). My partner and I get the flu shot but the kids don’t. Try to rest and have an early night as soon as you feel tired or run down. I hand sanitise if I’m out in public and make sure the kids do the same. We all wash our hands really well and often. Fingers crossed we keep the sniffles away this year!

  • Along with my other comments below; we also keep our home very clean and germ free. We have a cleaning schedule to keep on top of all of the jobs that need doing. We also make sure everyone disposes of used tissues and other items in bins and they go immediately to the rubbish.

  • Get vaccinated, to start with. It might not completely prevent illness but will certainly prevent serious illness. I would also suggest making sure you are generally healthy – a balanced diet, exercise, all the usual stuff. WAsh your hands often, use disposable tissues (and don’t leave them lying around, bin them).

  • I find having the dishwasher and washing machine on extra hot washes through flu season reduces the chances of others in the household getting sick when we’ve got one sick family member.

I always send the kids to school with a singlet on and have slipped for them at home.

Oh and vitamin c immune support tablets 🙂

  • Only my youngest gets the flu vaccination as she has Down syndrome as people with Down syndrome have a lower immune system.
I myself never have the flu and rarely even a cold (must be years ago).
I think the most important to keep your immune system up is looking at your diet and lifestyle; Make sure to eat plenty of fresh fruits and fresh vegetable, have plenty of exercise, catch enough sleep, avoid stress, reduce alcohol and practice good hygiene

  • We all get vaccinated against the flu and covid and other possible viruses and infections. We also eat plenty of whole foods that are good for overall health and boost immunity. We follow universal hygiene processes and we also get plenty of exercise to keep our bodies healthy and strong.

  • I keep hand sanitiser in all my hand bags and in the car so I can clean my hands when out and about. I also carry a material mask I can keep in my bag on case I enter a store where a lot of people are visually and audibly sick. I try to stay out of large shopping centres for long periods, stay out in the open.

  • I wear a mask when out shopping and mixing with the public. I use hand cleaner in the car for after using the petrol pump. I still clean my shopping trolley on the way in with the provided wipes. I wipe all my door handles and taps each day with hot water and spray with GLEN20. I use a Woman’s Multivitamin every day and I keep away from crowded areas. I like my fresh air and walk everyday. Hope you get well soon!
