Hello!

I am happy to go with her but I am worried because it’s even during the day. I don’t feel it’s for attention- her fear seems genuine so I don’t want to dismiss it but I have explained to her that she is safe at home and there’s no such thing as monsters. She is still scared. She will stay in the room by herself fine, she’s just scared to open a door or enter a room alone. Would love some tips to make her feel more secure.

  • I’m curious how your daughter is doing now ?

  • Some good tips are already been given. Think most important is indeed to find out why she is scared and talk about her fears. What could happen when she opens that door. Be around her and give her the feeling she first is safe with you, talk about how to make it more safe (redecorate bedroom, objects that make her feel safe, light, flashlight, music, prayer /meditation and have her involved. An accepting attitude of her with her fears gives space to work on the fears.

  • Maybe ask her why it makes her feel scared? Or maybe have a magic something that zaps everything scary away when she touches it on the door before she enters.

  • Ask her what scares her? Could something have happened in there?

  • Thanks for asking I’m going through the same thing with my 3 yr old. The monsters even follow her to grandmas.
I was really hoping for a few more ideas other than the spray. I don’t like the spray idea as it makes out that you are recognising there is monsters there & encouraging the behaviour. I have a few ideas I will give a go. Wish me luck.

  • When we faced this we gave her a monster protection kit, it had a spray bottle(of water) and touch that he used to scary any baddies away. Took a few times to keep them at bay but it worked

  • Give her the option to paint it & theme it as to what she wants

  • You need to ask her why she is scared and maybe get her a night light and leave her door open

  • I remember being scared the same way when I was little. Mum used to call out to me and talk to me while I went into the room alone from wherever she was in the house, and some how I got used to it and got over the fear.

  • You need to find out why she’s scared. Maybe leaving the door open permanently would help.

  • maybe move the furnitures abit?

  • maybe change her room around

  • there are some good comments here

  • talk to her and see if you can find out why she is scared. Tell her you will be waiting nearby and she can call you if she needs to. Make sure you stay where she can see you so she is encouraged to enter the room by herself.

  • Some good advice there below.

  • Put up a Litte Fairy Door (http://shop.aussiebubs.com.au/little-fairy-doors-tooth-fairy-kits/) and tell her that the fairys are now on guard and will watch over her and take care of all the nasties in the room.

  • Maybe you could try decorating the door to look like it opens up into a magical or happy place – or using one of those pretty beaded curtains in the door way while leaving the door open – attaching a door bell or some other music that plays when it’s opened. I’d try to make it into a game or some sort with her.

  • Make some “monster spray” to spray in her room to scare away any nasties…?

  • I am sure you have already tried opening to her showing that it is nothing to be scared of. Maybe try a musical door from toys R us?

  • i was the same as a child. its a natural fear i guess, she will overcome it with time. goodkluck
