Hello!

I have a problem with moths hanging on my fresh washing while it’s still on the line. And sometimes I don’t notice them so they end up inside with the clean washing. My line is under the patio. What can I do to stop the moths on the line?

  • Nice to read some useful tips here

  • l didn’t know tea tree oil would do the job! I will use it as well!

  • Spray white vinegar and tea tree oil around the area in the morning and evening and you should see them disappear :)

  • Buy some of those cheap little material gift tie bags from the Reject shop or similar and pop in some fresh mixed herbs and spices like lavender and cloves, hang the bags on the clothes line.

  • I also have a problem with tiny spiders. I have a line that you can fold down when not being used. Spiders keep spinning their webs in the line fittings. I have to wipe the line every day.
I have even sprayed the joins in the fittings on a few occasions with Surface Spray. I have tried a few different brands. Tiny moths you don’t always see until you actually take your washing off the line. I always give it a good shake as I remove it and fold it straight into the basket, then bring the washing in in batches so they don’t re-settle on it. Having no safe space off the ground the only place I can put anything out of reach of little fingers is on top of the airconditioner motor that sits on the pavers.

  • I also have an issue with tiny insects (probably moths of some type) getting on my washing in the Northern suburbs of Adelaide.
We had the same problem in the Wwestern suburbs, They seem to “land”on the washing mid to late afternoon. I shake my washing when taking it off the line before I fold it or take it inside directly onto an airer if I am not certain it is 100% dry or I know it is still damp but I can air it inside.

  • i dont get moths we get sticky beetles and i hate them

  • this happens to me too

  • The tea tree oil sounds like a good idea

  • We have a lot of trouble with moths under our verandah, and found that the only thing that really kept them away was burning citronella coils or candles. Perhaps if you do this when you hang the washing out, and continue them until you’re ready to bring the washing in, it will help.

  • I have the same problem and I am actually phobic with moths (which my husband finds quite funny as I will shoo a huntsmen out of my car but get creeped out by moths). I’ll try the tea tree oil because I hate them in my house ;)

  • I would try teatree oil as well, perhaps the spray and just liberally spray the area around your washing line. Good luck with it it must be a real nuisance.

  • You could try wiping it down with water and a couple of drops of tea tree oil.

  • Plant herbs under the line, keeps away bugs and clothes smell great!

  • Try to hang them during the day when the moths shouldn’t be around

  • I will give some of these if not all of these a try

  • I have the same problem

  • there are some good comments here

  • Such an annoying problem. I would try a bug zapper neat the line. Is there a garden close to your line? Maybe dig it up?

  • Bug zapper near the washing line or citronella candles as well
