Hello!

I want to create a photo wall in my hallway in my house but i honestly don’t know where to start. I have looked at Pinterest and i just find it too overwhelming. What tips do you have for me, should i buy all the same frames or mix it up with lots of different kinds? how do you pick what photos are best on the wall? I am probably over thinking this but i would love to hear your ideas and thoughts.

  • We have a new home and a niche wall to do this. Going to purchase a bunch of hooks and frames from kmart and start there

  • Pick a theme for your frames – eg all black ones. That will tie it together even if you’re using different sized photos.

  • I just printed my favs when there was a sale on prints and then stuck them up to see how I liked them before I committed to anything I love them just how they are so ended up staying like that.

  • I have bought some ikea photo shelves so I can change up the photos and frames when I want to change them

  • Do frameless and on canvas and just add to it when you can / afford too

  • I like the same frames but in different sizes – if you choose something simple like black or white wood, it should be easy enough.

  • There are places like thewallstickercompany.com.au that turn your photos into removable wall stickers. they look awesome, dont damage the walls and you can move them around!! honestly a game changer.

  • I lay my pictures landscape & horizontally and also adding kids artwork with their school achievements to break the photo wall. This is personal so just an idea for your wall

  • We group photos by criteria even though placement is organic.

  • I’m so glad you asked this question! I’ve been thinking about this too. I think that I am way too eclectic in my style to go with uniformity so I think I’m going to go with a mix of patterns etc.

  • I bought lots of the same style frames from target in different sizes. Some were positioned as portrait and others landscape. I measured the wall size and laid them all out on the floor first.

  • We use black frames because the emphasis is on the photos and not the frames. We let the placement of the photos be quite organic and let it grow.

  • What suits you and your home more, matching frames, or an eclectic collection? I’m more drawn to an array of colours and textures. Find what photos are the ones you love. Happy memories you’ll love to look at as you walk by numerous times a day. Make it your own.

  • We have a photo wall inspired by a andy warhol exhibition we went to. Basically all black frames of the same size arranged in a diamond shape. All the photos are black and white too. We love it!

  • Photo walls are personal, so there’s no one-size-fits-all.

Breathe easy! Photo walls are personal, so there’s no one-size-fits-all. Here are some quick tips:

Frames: Don’t sweat uniformity! Mixing sizes and styles adds character. Start with your favorite photos and find frames that complement them.

Selection: Choose meaningful pictures! Think memories, travels, loved ones, even artwork you connect with. Don’t overthink it, pick photos that spark joy.

Layout: Play with paper cutouts of your frames on the wall before drilling. Balance is key, but asymmetry can be cool too! Group similar colors or themes for added cohesion.
Remember, it’s your story on the wall! Have fun creating it!
