  • I usually spend about $20-$30 if it’s a close friend like one they spend most weekends with then I’ll go up to $40

  • The cost depends on the closeness of the child to my child and our family . If its one of my daughters best friends I will spend a little more and its generally easy to pick a nice gift because we know the child so well and know their interests and likes. If its just a classmate ( ie if the whole class is invited) I generally spend around $20 and buy something generic. I also look for sale items and specials during the year and stockpile generic gifts for parties so there’s always something at home when an tinvitation comes

  • That is a very generous amount to spend on kids. I try and keep it to $20 and if they are kids that my child spends a lot of time with, i would adjust the amount to around $25. You can still get some great gifts for a reasonable price without having to spend lots of money.

  • I think the amount you are spending is quite generous. I generally try to spend around $20-$30. That can be hard these days, but I definitely would not spend a higher amount than $50. I guess it does also depend on the party too. If it is bowling that’s fully paid for, then you could spend more.

  • i usually put aside $30-$50 for each child’s birthday gift, i aim get them a toy but also a book/interactive colouring book. it also totally depends on the age of the child. my eldest is 5yrs old so most of his friends are inbetween the 4-7 age group so it makes it much easier to accommodate budget wise🤍

  • I have two sons in lower primary school, and I usually spend around $40–$70 on birthday gifts for each party. It really depends on what the child likes, the party theme, and whether they’re one of my child’s close friends. I generally like to give a toy along with something educational, like a book. Everything feels so expensive these days.

  • Personally i think $30-$50 is way too much for a childs gift. I’m flabbergasted that anyone pays $30 or more. These are kids and surely you can get gifts that aren’t so expensive and especially in these days with the cost of living crisis. There are lots of crafting gifts to give for girls and boys usually like Lego but not the expensive Lego. Surely their parents don’t expect extravagant gifts either. Just keep it to a minimum if I was you. I have friends that don’t even spend that much on their friends. So spend less.

  • Personally, lower! We do up to $25 maximum- this is daycare and primary. I find items on sale so its always a great gift with more value. You should not spend big on a gift, parties are more than a present- its a gathering of fun, friendship and memories. I really like when parents specify for no presents at a party, it shows they are teaching their children that parties are not about receiving presents and that it is about celebrating with friends and family having a lovely time.

  • It’s been a while since my daughter was at school, but I remember spending between $20 and $30 per gift. I think that was the usual amount everyone spent back then, and a reasonable amount especially if your child gets invited to a lot of parties.

  • For me it depends on the relationship your child has with the other, and if you are buds with the parents. My toddler had a party invite from another toddler from a weekly activity, and I like the mum and get along with her well so didn’t want to get anything junky that would be broken immediately. I spent a little over $50. The toddler loved the gift and the mum commented on how much it’s being played with. That’s worth it for me.

  • Personally we spend more between 20 and 30 dollar for a school friend and maybe a little more when it is a special friend.
I think $50 is really a lot and not needed at all.
When I organise a party myself I quite often write on the invite no gift needed, your presence is a gift. Some people organise a 5er party and I like that Idea too
