Hello!

I love the multicultural nature of our mums group but I want to throw a little Christmas party and am not too sure if I should invite those I know (or a pretty sure) dont celebrate Christmas? Is it weird to ask? Weird to not ask?

  • Whilst people may not celebrate Christmas, I’m sure they would likely still enjoy time together. You could always invite them and then you will know. I can’t see an issue unless you’re planning to follow some religious practices that they could feel uncomfortable with.

  • Ask them! They also have to be sensitive to you and know that it is something you celebrate. Give them the option of not coming, but don’t leave them out.

  • It would be rude not to ask them. They can decline if they don’t want to come.

  • I say definitely invite them, they’re part of the group so why not. If they feel strongly about not celebrating they’ll decline, although some are religious, you’d be surprised at how casual some people are even when they don’t believe in something.

  • I would invite them so they don’t feel left out.

  • One of my daughters went to kindy with a little boy who was 7th Day Adventist but all of the kids still invited him to their birthday parties. He never came but at least he was included. The thing I found very rude was his Mother never RSVPed…very rude. That being said she wasnt the only one.

  • I think it is okay to ask, it means you are being inclusive and not assuming anything. Plus it is your party, your choice and your custom. If they don’t want to come they don’t have to but you will have done everything right. It is not weird either way but you will save yourself a lot of stress/worry/guilt if you just step out and be yourself. The only way to find out will be when they reply.

  • you may be surprised on who accepts your invitation, I have some Muslim friends & they love the idea of xmas

  • I would ask them all, if they aren’t interested or don’t believe in it, than they will decline.
As long as you can accept a no answer, I say ask them all. You never know, maybe some of them might be interested in what other cultures do too, especially if they are new Australians.

  • If it’s anything like my local community, it would be totally fine to ask and people would probably be very happy to come. We ahve a mix of numerous cultures and religions, and everyone passes on good wishes to each other for the various different festivities and celebrations. All the best.
