Hello!

I have a 9 month old and I am scared that she will choke. Also I am not sure what is for this age. I have started giving her some banana but not sure what else to try. Any feedback would be great, thanks.

  • There are lots of great books you could borrow from the library with guidelines and recipes ‘ suggestions. Try Annabel Karmal – I think she has a webpage too. She was great at going through age by age what to try.

  • Have you consulted your worries with the childhood nurse at the baby clinic? Mine was a great help and will offer you lots of suggestions. I used to give mine soft foods , nothing hard at all, eg No nuts
Try soft vegies and fruits eg stew apples , rice , soft carrots , bread ( not the crust ) etc…

  • cruskits with vegemite. or toast and vegemite,

  • I got this little net looking thing for my son and you put chopped up fruit in it and they suck out the juices. Messy but he loved it

  • If bub is ready for solids which they usually are by 9mths – has control control, can swallow, head control, can sit up unassisted, interested in food etc then we would lightly steam carrot sticks, broccoli. We gave apple cut into fingers, pear.

  • sit with them why they eat but i would consider finger sandwiches, soft fruits,my friend has been using these crackers for kids they are like miniature rice crackers you can buy them at Woolworth. He is 10 mths old.

  • French Toast, Vegemite and cheese sandwiches, thin sausage, Celery sticks, soften carrot sticks in microwave, sliced apple pieces, strawberries, peeled grapes, made my own wedges. BUT I NEVER LEFT THEM ALONE to eat. I always sat with mine and had my lunch too.

  • have been :) she is eating well since :P

  • there are some good comments here

  • all soft foods banana orange slice and stuff

  • Good question, start with soft foods maybe.

  • Give bub some toast. She may do a little bit of gagging, but this is developmental.

  • It depends on how well you little one chews her food. My little one at that age I was giving him vegemite sandwiches, apple (remove skin), watermelon, rusks,. He would go through any of it. I find now him being a toddler its a lot harder to feed him

  • It depends on how well you little on chews her food. My little on At he age I was giving him vegemite sandwiches, apple (remove skin), water melon

  • toast with the crust cut off. greated cheese, yogurt, mashed avocado, mashed baked beans

  • Toast is a good one. My girl loves avocado and toast, it’s good for them to learn to hold things with their fingers.

  • Pretty much any fruit and veg except bigger pieces of Apple and Carrot I think (these need to be grated if giving them raw). Oh and I think you’re meant to peel grapes and chop them smaller. Best to check with your Maternal Health Nurse if you’re not sure.

  • They might gag and give you a scare but normally a child this age can have mushy foods without a problem. Also, I’ve decided to just start my bubs on veggies, then so onto fruit and then combine them both. later I will add some rice cereal so they bulk up on the energy. Borrow some books on infant nutrition and feeding guidelines to help you make your choice about what to do. It’s more of an educated choice rather then a rule book, that’s how I like to think of it.

  • just choose soft foods like bananas, watermelon youghurts ect

  • I gave my 9 month old fruit she loves it things like strawberries sliced avocardo toast anything soft that I new she couldn’t chock on
