Hello!

Just wondering if anyone has any tips for flying with an infant? Mine will be 6 months old at time of travel and the flight goes for just under 2 hours. Thank you

  • Make sure they are sucking on something during take off and landing to avoid ear issues. A bottle or a dummy or the boob.

  • Take a favourite toy/ blanket for nap/sleep time, a sippy cup for juice diluted with water once inflight to help the ears and a couple of small balloons to keep them entertained blowing them up again and again! Most airlines also have children’s activity packs to keep them busy with.

  • One worry you may have is sharing the plane with other passengers and their coughs, colds, and germs. Keep any bugs at bay by being extra scrupulous with hygiene, perhaps adding a travel-size antibacterial hand gel to your hand luggage.

  • My brother went to NZ with his 1 yo,he screamed all the way home on the plane, never again,he said.

  • try to feed on take off and landing to stop ears hurting

  • there are some good comments here

  • Hope the suggestions below helped

  • I’ve heard that infants are much easier to fly with than toddlers – just make sure that they are sucking on take off and landing for the ear popping

  • How did it all go?

  • Hope all goes well on your trip with your little one.

  • Let them suck on something so their ears don’t pop

  • Good luck and hope you go ok

  • Just a little warning… When travelling with my bub at a similar age, the cabin pressure forced my baby to do ‘number twos’ on both takeoffs. There are change tables in the plane toilets, but have all the usual stuff on hand

  • Anything to suck on as in dummy, breast or bottle is apparently good as the sucking helps with any pressure they may feel in their ears.

  • Our first daughter was 5 months when she went on an aeroplane and we just kept her sucking when the plane took of and when we landed, so a bottle or breast or dummy what ever we could find to keep her ears from blocking/popping

  • Some really good advice below

  • A dummy is amazing on flights

  • There is always baby panadol, if they are restless and need calming down.

  • Alot of people recommend feeding when taking off, i find it easier to feed before getting on if you are breastfeeding as it is more comfortable. I use a dummy when taking off and landing. Bring plenty of distractions for your little one to play with. Bring 2changes of clothes. Hopefully your little one sleeps i know if im holding bub he sleeps pretty much the whole flight but i have only done 2.5 hour flights. Good luck, relax yourself if he is upset and you get frustrated you will get very tired

  • I travelled to Fiji with my daughter when she was 7 months. I fed her on take off and landing and kept a dummy handy. We loaded play school and few other shows to the ipad. I also recommend booking a flight around bubs sleep time as they can sleep during the flight.
