Hello!

Hi, I’m a first time mum due to deliver in 3weeks time. I’m excited but also scared. I was told just a week ago that I was supposed to have massaged my breasts so that milk would flow, which in my case no one bothered to tell me this. Is this the right thing to do, should I have started earlier and if not what should I do? Any tips for a first time mum on stimulating milk flow?

  • I wasn’t given this information during my pregnancies. I was told after bub is born that the more they feed, the more milk you will produce

  • it will come naturally. Hot showers help!

  • It will happen naturally – I didn’t do anything prior to the birth of my don but managed to successfully breastfeeding for 2 years.

  • when your baby is born it will stimulate your breast you dont need to do anything

  • No preparation needed, however all of those things will assist once actually feeding.

  • How did it all go for you?

  • You don’t need any pre preparation to get the milk flowing before baby is born. However you may need these techniques once you are breastfeeding.

  • Nope you don’t need to do that

  • Hope everything went well with the arrival of bub

  • Hope everyone can help I thought it was jus a natural thing

  • You totally don’t need to do any preparation before birth to stimulate milk. Hook yourself up with the Australian Breastfeeding Association website for a wealth of free information.

  • No need to massage your breasts. Your milk works on supply and demand, bub demands more, your breasts supply more. You can help milk supply through expressing milk, drinking plenty of water, lactation cookies, a good diet, plenty of rest and looking after yourself. Good attachment by bub is also crucial.

  • I never did that and my milk flows just fine! Bub will do all the work for you! :)

  • I have also heard of this, but i found standing under a hot shower also stimulated milk flow

  • honestly i never did any of that and i had a great supply i would not stress about it when baby comes so does your milk if you are finding you don’t have enough milk then try that but until then just take it easy and rest before baby :)
