Hello!

Would love some tips on how to get a 12 week breast fed bub to take a bottle? So far we are having no luck even with hubby trying

  • and yes you can even try pumping some BM into the bottle and trying with that

  • be patient and start with only little..though you’ll have to make a minimum of 30ml… bub will cry for the first few instances…just console but dont switch to ur feed…. play with him…and never try to start a bottle when he’s hungry…
    try in between
kids learn in about 3-4 days…use a easily digestable and nice tasting formula…

  • You could try not giving in and just offering the bottle each time until they take the bottle however I cant promise that will work.
My daughter was breastfed until 12 months. I tried desperately to express and get her to take it from a bottle, but even if I left her at day care (my friends day care centre) she wouldn’t take a sip the whole time I was gone and as soon as I returned I would jump into their office and feed her.

  • Use the bottle to drip a bit of milk onto your babies mouth and make sure he/she sees it come from the bottle and tastes the milk. it might help make a connection that if he/she wants to have some milk, that’s how its going to happen now. good luck

  • there are some good comments here

  • any luck so far ?

  • How are they going with the bottle now?

  • how did you go with it?

  • Had any luck so far?

  • I have had issues with #2 and #3 taking a bottle. with #3 I literally tried 5 different bottles… and then I tried the MAM bottles (I used the anti colic ones) and success! I raved about them so much to my mums group that it has helped quite a few of the other bottle aversion babies take the bottle. you can buy them in big w

  • Maybe try different teats for the bottles maybe they cant attach properly with the bottles

  • Try getting your partner to offer her the bottle. Sometime this works because she won’t be able to smell your milk

  • Good luck, our baby hated the bottle and in the end we gave up

  • Try getting bub to play with one of the bottle teets first allow them to put in mouth and suck, also try it with water first I found my daughter took water easily then eventually switched to milk

  • my 2 switched straight away… but i suggest finding a bottle with a teat much like your own breast and nipple size and be sure to express milk before trying formula makes the breast to bottle switch easier

  • I was the only one to get my baby to try a bottle. She would just get distressed with someone else. I started during her night feeds when she was half asleep and didn’t notice as much.

  • Keep trying and try lots of bottles, even the cheaper ones sometime work better. Where possible get dad or someone else to feed them, and especially if they have woken up and really hungry. It will work but for some it does seem to take forever. Goodluck and don’t let it stress you as they will drink eventually.

  • I think we were lucky, my bub tries to get her hands on any bottles she can see, although she has different levels of success with different teats, for her the pidgeon teats work best. Maybe try nursing her till she’s a little sleepy and slipping the bottle in like you would a dummy.

  • Good luck, we were never able

  • I agree with Pamela….try different teats of different shapes and also different sized holes as it could be that the milk flow is too hard or too fast and they choke.
