Hello!

I am trying for baby 3 however I am totally terrified of the labour and want a c section. My first was born in 45 minutes (start of labour to when she was out) and she was very small, however with my son it was only 30 minutes and he was almost 9 pound so I had heaps of stiches and then the doctor said I was bleeding too much and I had 5 of those needles they give you after the baby is born. Am I being silly to want a c section?

  • I think if your labor was so quick it may not be practical to have a c section. I’d suggest talking to your medical team for advice.

  • I probably would have opted for a c section if it was something I knew about then. The more i read about whilst pregnant the more worked up I got about labour. I ended up getting induced at 41 weeks. I too had lots of bleeding and required stitches and couldn’t really do much moving about due to pain.

  • Not sure when you wrote question but I just came across it but it is your body so your choice so do request one and say why and go from there, good luck!

  • You need to be prepared. You can request a c section and they will discuss with you the pros and cons to help you make an informed decision. A c section won’t happen until about week 38-39 so you have time to think about it. Listen to your specialists, your partner (if you have one) and your body and I’m sure you will make the right choice for you. Just remember c section is a lot longer recovery process than a normal birth and you are just as likely to loose blood and will have a scar right across your stomach. However with a planned cesearean you can prepare yourself as to what will happen in comparison to an emergency c section. Good luck.

  • If you feel more comfortable with getting a c section and it puts your mind at ease than go for it, it’s your body and in the end you need to be happy with the decisions you make. Best of luck!!

  • and i wish you best of luck!

  • it is totally up to you. DOn’t feel pressured on what is right and what is not.

  • there are some good comments here

  • goodluck :) let us know how you go

  • If you have concerns, speak with your obstetrician.

  • i wish you all the best :)

  • Even with the stitches and problems I had with mine (9 pound 8) I am still more scared of the c section – probably due to the recovery time

  • All the best with it and do what make you feel is best for you.

  • Every labour and pregnancy and labour is diff

  • What did you end up choosing?

  • Avoid it if you can, giving birth naturally is better and less healing time.

  • I agree with the other mums who have had c section it’s not fun. I had a picture perfect c section with no complications and I still would not recommend it. The recovery is painful and frustrating and it’s not fun when you can’t get up for the first 24 hours to pick up your crying baby, you have to rely on having someone there to do a lot of the small things.

  • Not at all, whatever makes your childbirth easier for you. I had a pretty horrific natural pain relief free birth that I didn’t enjoy half as much as my c section with my twins. I didn’t feel anything with them, yes the recovery was more intense but it was worth it to enjoy the birth!

  • You just do what you need to. There is no shame in choosing a route that makes you feel more In control and comfortable. Each method of birth has its own set of pros and cons, but the end result is all the same…. A beautiful child to love

  • Some great first hand advice here. Hope these answers have helped you a bit
