Hello!

This is the first time travelling with baby so would love advice for the plane and what to expect. What should we watch out for on the plane and when wet are in Asia? What happens if the baby suddenly falls ill?

  • I always packed baby panadol fir any possible illnesses. But if bub gets really sick, of course you will need to take bub to see a Dr

  • I remember seeing a young couple backpacking around india with 2 child, about 2 months and 2 yrs. I remember thinking No way could I do that. They looked so Happy!

  • Having lived in Asia and travelled frequently with our daughter. The best thing I can advise is to stay calm on the flight, most of the time it is adults that make more noise than children.
When you arrive check the location of the international hospital and get the address written down in the local language so you can easily give information to a taxi, some countries have really nice hospitals.

  • Biggest thing is the water, so make sure it is either bottled or boiled. Get the doctor to check out your baby’s ears to make sure they are good for travelling on a plane with the air pressure. But most of all have fun.

  • Have a safe trip!

  • goodluck with your trip, I hope your baby doesn’t get sick

  • Always have travel insurance so you don’t have to worry. May be worth getting a hep a course before going, depending on which part of Asia you are heading to.

  • Depends how old baby is but just check with your travel insurance provider

  • there are some good comments here

  • how did it go, have you been yet lol

  • make sure you have your bub health history and blue book with you at all time

  • Good luck that is a tough one

  • We took DD to Hong Kong at 5.5months and it was super easy (albeit slightly different to our usual adventurous holidays!). Main advice I have is feed on take off & landing to help with ear pressure, book a bassinet seat on plane if bubs is within weight range, pack plenty of wipes, nappies, food, toys, baby panadol etc in your carry on. All the locals went crazy for DD, so everyone was super helpful, including the flight attendants & hotel staff.
Get yourself a small stroller rather than a big pram, streets over there are quite crowded. We found it too hot to use the ergo baby carrier most of the time, but it was handy for settling her on planes, buses etc.
I wore baby in ergo baby carrier in cabs as there’s no option for carseats!
Pack some dishwashing liquid to clean bottles etc in hotel sink (use kettle to boil the water). Use bottled water only when mixing bottles and feeding bubs. Hope that helps! Enjoy your holiday!

  • Have you been on your holiday? Hope it went well.

  • Have an emergency plan in place before you go so that you know where to seek medical advice when you are away. Also talk to your GP as they may be able to advise on preventatives

  • I would be asking your doctor about this and the neccessary precautions and vaccinations you require.

  • Would be wary of travel to Asia with a baby, get holiday health insurance to cover the family while on holidays. check with Aust government as to what precautions, vacinationations etc are necessary.

  • i think they normally prescribe tablets for adults to take before you go, i would think the same for bub? maybe in liquid form. and make sure bub is up to date with vaccinations.

  • definitely talk to your doctor. even see if you can get some sort extra medical insurance for your bub. hope you find your answer.

  • I would check with the GP. Is your child old enough for the necessary vaccinations. I’d be a bit worried taking a young child to some Asian countries.
