Hello!

Hi Mums, I am about to take my daughter who is 6 on her first overseas holiday. What tips and tricks do you have or should share with me about what to take, organise and be prepared for? Any advice would be greatly appreciated as I am both nervous and excited about the trip.

  • How exciting! I like to ensure lots of snacks and treats are packed for the flight. Long haul flights can be intimidating for littles and indulging in some sweets can make it extra fun. Headphones for the in-flight entertainment, colouring books, a handheld console like a switch if it’s something they have at home.

  • Wow, that’s amazing- congratulations! I would say that an activity kit is a must as there will be a lot of travel time and she will likely get tired and bored. A neck pillow may come in handy for her to nap during travel and I would take a whole bunch of her favourite muesli bars, etc and cereal as everything is different overseas and it’s always good to have something familiar that you know she will like.

  • Exciting times !! Where about are you planning to go ? Besides the normal things like clothing shoes, toiletries, IPad’s and plugs, I always found it important to bring some of their favorite toys and activities, like a colouring book with colour markers, a favourite teddy, a puzzle book, a book to read, some jigsaws and games

  • Oh how wonderful! It will definitely be an experience and one you can share and remember together. I would definitely prep some things she can do on the plane, depending how long it is. Keep her busy and occupied as it can be a restless feeling sitting there for long periods.

  • Don’t try to plan too much for any one day if you can help it – kids have tons of energy but can get really tired by new sights and experiences. Pack a favorite toy (but preferably not one that’s irreplaceable, that’s just asking for trouble). Have some favorite snacks to hand.

  • I’d be trying for a window seat for her as a priority. Not only for looking out when there is land in sight but for the comfort of leaning with a cushion. Eye mask, headphones, cushion and a screen for reading, movies or games. I hope it’s a memorable time.

  • I suggest headphones and food to eat during take off and landing to counteract ears popping. Maybe games, colouring books, also try to get a window seat so you can distract her with looking out the window at clouds, land etc. Oh and definitely don’t forget their favourite snuggle toy or blanket. Good luck 😊
