My first was around 18 months and he just went cold turkey. My second is nearly 2 and he is obsessed! I don’t know how we’ll get rid of his. Though he does input have it at home.
My son had just turned 4 & we left it out with the cookies Xmas eve for Santa to give to all the new Xmas babies. Mind you I had prepared him for a good 6months that this is what was going to happen. Other child was 3 & had vomiting virus which he blamed on dummy so we used that opportunity to get rid of it.
We went to a holiday cruise and without planning we decided to take the dummy away from our 1.5 year old on the first day. We let her stay awake and enjoy the cruise activities until she was very tired, do then we would take her to sleep and she was so tired that she started sleeping strait away. On the first 2 days she got a little unsettled but after that she forgot completely.
We weren’t going to use a pipi (dummy) but it didn’t last long. Our daughter now loves hers too much, we are trying to make it for sleep time only. Hopefully that works. Good luck
Hello, I posted a similar question (how did you wean your baby off the dummy) someone mentioned the dummy fairy, another said the Easter bunny bit holes in them. I haven’t reached the weaning point yet but I was told not to do it around a major change (moving house, new baby etc) , discuss it with your child and reserve dummies for bed only (last suggestion was from a speech pathologist friend). Some people wean their baby off the dummy around 1, some around 2, some later. I guess there are a number of circumstances that go into the decision. My daughter’s daycare don’t let have them once they go into the 2yrs plus room (she uses hers for her naps).
I couldnt get my son off his dummy until he was almost 4 and my daughter was almost the same. I used the dummy fairy who came took the dummy and left big boy/girl money
we put it away for 2 days just incase, stayed persistent and no problems.
Thank goodness it wasnt all 3 that had a dummy
My daughter LOVED her dummies, so I let her keep them for sleep time only until she was three.
After that I felt way too bad about it, so let her kiss them goodbye, went outside and said, “we’re throwing them to the stars so the stars can sleep well at night.” I pretended to throw them up, she looked up, I put them in my pocket then later in the bin.
That night my husband came home with a star machine for her bedroom so she could see “how happy she made the stars by giving them her dummies.”
Three days and a few tears and it was over.
Three is late I know…I didn’t have the guts to do it beforehand. She loved them so much!
