We loved the “show and teach” style idea. My son did posters on places we have been and fun facts. He also did a decorate a cookie for each child and explained about icing etc.

Photos of something exciting that may have happened. Orphaned animals hehe, crafts, new toys, souvenirs… something I need to find out about for when my little one is at school

I took something to school once when I was a bit older. Everyone loved it. It was a set of sheeps lungs with windpipe and all and I BLEW THEM UP. AND SOME of the others had a go too. Mum worked at a butcher shop at the time. It was a very interesting show and tell that day!lol!!!

My kids would take things like birds nests, caterpillar cocoons, something they made in the kitchen (eg cooking) or something they made craft wise

Something that means a lot to them.
A photo, a teddy, a momento from a holiday.
Our kids have sometimes taken their favourite DVD! Make sure you discuss what your child wants to take beforehand.
My nephew wanted to take his brothers dirty nappy for Show & Tell haha!

As a teacher, I recommend things that don’t have small parts that can get lost or very valuable items that can be broken, lost or stolen. A favourite toy or a photo of a person or holiday they can talk about are good options. Their baby photo is always fun.

Anything that you child loves so they will have the confidence to talk about it. A lot of schools will send home a list so they have themes going eg ‘something soft’ etc

Small toys , their special books or special things like masks, small bags with cartoon characters or sometimes their small crafts.

Anything that interests your child which they can talk about is ok. Photos, favourite Toy, craft items. My kids used to take in photos of their favourite activities at home eg photos of them in the pool or on the trampoline.

try getting her to take something that she knows a little about as the other children will probably want to ask questions, Nothing too large , nothing to expensive .Maybe a photo of a special occasion, a special toy , sometimes a new baby if you have just had one , even a new small pet as long as you can take it home later Ask her what is important to her , what she would like to show, each child will have something that is special to them.

Photos of pets or special events that have happened,if they are able put pics on a USB so they can do slide show of the photos,this is great as it gets the children to talk about something they are interested in and it is not going to be the same as everyone else so they have to think about what they will fe saying not just repeating what has been said before. It’s best if what ever it is has meaning to them if it does they will talk about it and therefore gain confidence.

Something relevant to the activities she did that week so that she can narrate. Our daughter has asked to take cicada shells, shells, photos from ANZAC Day

My daughter loves nature and always wanted to take rocks, flowers, dead bugs, shells, leaves.

My son takes his favourite toys, now they have subjects each week they have to find something in relation to the topic, but he has taken books, souvenirs and photos. Anything that they love.

Be guided by your daughter, show and tell should not be competitive. My son once took his favourite cereal bowl or was plastic ans well used.

As another Mum has stated it can depend on the school. Our daughter’s school banned toys, dangerous items and things that were not considered to be PC like toys guns from show and tell.

Popular items children took were favourite books, photos of family members or friends, holiday souvenirs and things they had found like shells on the beach.

I would ask her what she wants to take? If it something she loves it will be easier for her to talk about it in front of the class
