  • manicure, tickets to a show, sherry

  • What about a performance from the (great) grandkids, or a slideshow of the best bits of that year or things the kids did with her etc

  • Last year for my grandmother we found her favourite clothing store and each bought her a special outfit.
She doesn’t get to shop for herself very often these days and it made her feel so special to have new outfits to choose from – even if they were just worn around the house or to her appointments.

  • chcoolates- cant go wrong
    flowers
    heat pack is also nice

  • They will not want anything that needs looking after or keeping so maybe something they can share, like homemade biscuits beautifully boxed.

  • They need more time with grandkids of course.Make sure kids to make something for her.

  • nice bottle of their favourite plonk

  • I think a 93 year old would just be happy to spend time with family over the holidays. Go visit them or bring them to visit you, they’ll love it

  • At 93, they probably don’t need anything and probably would get much use out of things anyway. I would suggest spending time with them. Visit them or have them visit you. Take them out for the day or have them stay with you for a few days if possible.

  • We’ve started doing Experiences as opposed to purchasing items. Things like brunches, high teas, weekends away, movies etc. Something to do together and make special memories

  • At that age I think its nice to ask what they would like.. I have found that people know themselves pretty well and will tell you (or at least my relatives have). Sometimes it might be more visits or time with them so regular visits can be better than anything.

  • I love making up homemade and personalised voucher books for outings, treats and similar activities. A voucher book means a present lasts all year!

  • I have found older family members love personal family items, some of the items you can get with family photos on them such as mugs, keyrings etc have always been really well received. Diary with a nice pen for their appointments and reminders, a tin of treats, puzzle books, especially the large print ones.

  • I bought my Nan an at home massage- the therapist was mobile and I ordered her a facial. She loved it and felt very spoiled.

  • An experience such a morning tea/afternoon tea or day out to a favourite place or venue.

  • A poem or beautifully written card! In the card write a favourite memory of them

  • A good bottle of scotch

  • I know a Grandma who is given photos fairly regularly and virtually has everything by the time Christmas comes around as they make sure she has everything she needs during the year.
Her family have now resorted to a large hamper of groceries – things she l wouldn’t buy for herself.
They don’t live near her but make contact every day and have an arrangement with others to check to ensure she is ok because if she isn’t more often than not she won’t tell them.

  • Photos are always appreciated by our elderly relatives, especially of the great grandchildren. Lotto tickets or scratchies are also enjoyed as well.

  • What did you buy at the end?
