Hello!

I need a good shampoo to remove flakes from my scalp. I’ve tried everything … head and shoulders, nope. Selsun blue, nope.. tea tree based, nope. CPR, nope. I have a dry patch right at the front of my hair line, one on either side near my temples and one at the base of my hair line near my neck.. nothing is clearing them up. It makes it really hard to have my hair in certain styles as all I can see is flakes. Help!!

  • I would pop into the chemist. There’s an over the counter one you can get. I forgot what it’s called.

  • I also struggle from this an am interested to hear which ones you have tried and have worked?

  • I love the OC brand. it’s cheap but extremely effective. And has no nasties in it – which is awesome. A lot of other ‘natural’ brands charge heaps for that.

  • Glycolic Acid! I use the one from The Ordinary. Use on dry hair, apply to the scalp and let it soak in for 15 mins. Wash out with shampoo and you’ll notice how much cleaner your hair is! I use this once a fortnught as I get flakes and product buildup and it is the best way to cleanse my hair.

  • I use plant based shampoo and conditioner bars and don’t seem to get much dandruff anymore.

  • I regularly use Head and Shoulders, always works for me but my flakes are mild

  • Maybe try baby oil, it worked for me.

  • I can recommend Bondi Boost Dandruff essential kit. My husband has psoriasis on his scalp and this is the only thing that has helped him, in fact it’s gone. We got the full kit (scrub and scalp brush as well as S&C) but it’s totally paid off. He’s even tried dedicated and medicated options from the chemist which did absolutely nothing. Wishing you luck!

  • My son struggles with flakey scalp. My mother in law who is a hairdresser suggested massaging in oil on his scalp letting it sit for a while then combing it through and wash it out. It definitely helps.

  • Coal tar shampoo

  • Maybe ask a pharmacist or your doctor for products that can help.

  • There is a really good Head and Shoulders product, but if you have tried it (there are many) then the only other thing I can suggest is to go to a naturopath to see if they are able to help. There could be a ginger mix or argan oil shampoo product that may help, but suggest contacting the naturopath first.

  • I suffer this occasionally too! I bought a silicone brush that I use in the shower. I will always give my head a good scrub before and after my washing. I also try to use less shampoo? hope this helps!

  • I have found the body shops ginger shampoo great for this.

  • Head and shoulders!

  • Like many below comments, I use Moo Goo too and buy when they have deals.

  • I’ve been using MooGoo for years and it’s great. Keeps my psoriasis at bay.

  • I have a frank body scalp serum which has been great for removing flakes, they also have a fantastic scalp scrub, but if you have thick hair like me it might take two to three shampoos to wash it all out.

  • A hairdresser can probably look at your scalp and recommend a shampoo for your type of scalp.

  • Have you tried the moo goo shampoo? I found this worked best
