Our house is always a little on the damp side but especially in winter. Someone told me that this can me really unsafe for kids. How do other mums manage mold in their homes?

  • Please seek professional advice, this is not something you want to mess with.

  • I remove mold in the shower and on ceilings with bleach. Tea tree oil also works but not as well.

  • I just spray with bleach. But if you have little ones, I would be getting professional mould removers in

  • Mould in homes is a big health issue, it can make you very sick. You can get professional cleaners in to fix the problem. It all depends how bad it is as to whether you call in professionals or do it yourself

  • We had it in the bathroom and the reason was there was water going into the walls from the shower, once that was discovered and fixed -it went away.

  • I used to wipe the walks down regularly with bleach. We got mould real bad. For some reason it seems to have reduced lately. Maybe try keeping your moisture level inside to a minimum

  • Do you live in a humid climate? It can be difficult to get things 100% dry. You can get mould in other rooms besides the bathroom too. A friend of ours rented a house which had a garden planted against the foundations and the foliage was against the walls. The guy offered to dig some of it out to eliminate the problem but the landlord refused the offer. After our friend moved out the landlord removed the whole section of the garden, not just the plants that were of concern. In the meantime the guy had to contend with damp mouldy walls and curtains. The rain also kept the wall wet during the wet season.

  • Yes air house as often as possible is a good idea!

  • eradicate as much as possible, open windows and air the house at every opportunity, and heat up rooms to dry them out, mold can cause many illnesses, it can be very dangerous,

  • Exit mould and open a window during the day on wet rooms so they dry.

  • there are some moulds which are particularly bad – try to keep the dampness under control by airing and maybe finding what is causing it in the first place.

  • Air house as often as possible by opening windows. ucan buy tubs that u can put in each area that willsoak up the humidity inthat area.

  • Spraying walls with vinegar will kill mould. Then clean with bleach if there are still stains. There are mould resistant bathroom paints you can buy one you have the mould under control.

  • Oil of Cloves …. use this on hard surfaces this gets rid of mould and kills the spores … for fabrics soak in heavily salted water I suppose best in washing machine …. set to drip dry then rub off salt …. probably best buying rock salt

  • We used bleach to clean the walls in the bathroom, the mould did not return, we repainted with special bathroom paint. No problems since then.

  • there are some good comments here

  • Some good advice there below.

  • You need to reduce the moisture, mould in Australia is not as bad as other places, TV has given mould a pretty bad rep but nonetheless it can be dangerous and definitely irritating for some conditions. You can get small room or even cupboard dehumidifiers which may help and there is a company called ‘Mould Assassins’ that can come and remove it safely and treat problems areas to stop it returning.

  • they do make spray specifically for mould and it works quite well – I think it is called exit mould

  • How are you going with managing the mould?
