Is it just me or do others have fears when their husband is away?

  • I’m okay as long as I know everything is locked.

  • Yes my husband works Night shift has for years I was scared in the beginning as my children were only small but now I am just used to it but I do wake up to any little sound

  • I stress when I’m home alone. We had a big dog though, he helped

  • Yes I do not always but sometimes…. I felt better when I had a dog but I can’t explain why I feel silly for feeling like it but it is what it is…. I just make sure everything’s locked and keep busy

  • I have a friend who sometimes scared and even a bit paranoia at night. I offered she can always phone or message and she does: we regularly chat during the night. She tells what bothers her and I listen and sometimes advice.

  • My son gets a bit scared when my husband is gone for the night or comes home very late.
Personally I don’t mind, I lived on my own for a long time and are perfectly ok with being alone.

  • I hate it when my partner is not at home due to work interstate, thank god it doesn’t happen alot!

  • If you are in an isolated area where there are minimal neighbours , I think it is normal to be scared because you feel very lonely . Perhaps when hub is away , try and make phone calls to friends etc and let them know you are on your own and like to talk to them . You could also join a local community group so that when he is away , there is someone around the local to talk to . Hope you do .

  • haha yep!! I jump at every little noise, and don’t sleep until I literally drop from simply being completely tired, worn out and exhausted. I check on the kids at least 5 times too…

  • Unfortunately, this is a reality of life for FIFO families. The first nights always the hardest. Best advice? Get to know your neighbours well. I have on rare occasions sent text messages when heard odd night noises. Knowing you have support mechanisms set us really helps.

  • I don’t, only because I’ve been on my own so long.

  • Yes, that’s totally me! I feel so silly! When hubby is home, no problems day or night. When he’s gone. I jump at my own shadow. Spend most of my time trying to keep myself together. I get through it, but it’s tough at times. Buy yourself a dog, a BIG dog, they help and are really good company

  • I used to and I used to do the ‘murderer check’ (check the wardrobes, under the beds etc for a hiding murderer). I think it is just being over tired that helped me get over the paranoia/fear

  • I do as all of the normal noises seem scary. However, I use those evenings as a catch up on television night, where he is not hogging the television. Armed with the remote and some common sense, I can usually survive the evening.

  • well i think that you should take steps to make sure your house is secure so you feel a bit better.

  • Not scared but am more aware of noises and keep the back door locked since I’ve had children.

  • IM ok, but find it hard to sleep if he isn’t home

  • I do to, I think it is natural, as you feel there is no one there to protect you, try to distract yourself by watching a HAPPY movie

  • Maybe write down your fears and reflect on them too; this may help.

  • Maybe get some strategies to manage your fear.
