British teachers have shared their outrage after a greeting card company released a selection of cards that they feel insult their profession.

With the British schooling year coming to an end, one greeting card company has released a series of greeting cards for teachers that aren’t quite what you’d expect.

Love Layla is selling cards for parents to give teachers that are less than complimentary, insulting teaching ability, the profession, and even their own children!

Unfair And Ungrateful

The selection of cards feature messages including ‘nursery teacher: the only job where you find yourself saying don’t lick that’, ‘thank f*** my kid doesn’t have you as their teacher next year’, and ‘thanks for putting up with bratty ungrateful children like my classmates’.

While the company says that the cards were just meant to be a bit of fun, company director Stacey Dennis says that they have received many messages from teachers who feel personally attacked by the range.

“We’ve had lots of messages from teachers on social media who think that our products are insulting and rude towards them,” she said. “We believe they are great fun – as do the parents who have nearly cleared us out of our stock.”

Laugh It Off

Love Layla is known for selling controversial cards, and Stacey says that they have no plans to stop anytime soon.

“We’re used to upsetting some people with some of our range, which despite being sometimes risque, is designed to be a laugh and thoroughly good-natured,” she said.

“I would say that all those outstanding, enthusiastic teachers out there have nothing to worry about but those who may be less than the top of the class should prepare themselves. I’m sure six weeks holiday will help them get over it if they’ve been offended in any way”

As tempting as it might be for some parents to give a card like this, we think we’ll stick to a good old-fashioned thank you card and remind ourselves of the incredible job most teachers do.

Do you think these cards are completely inappropriate or just a bit of fun? Let us know in the comments.

  • I think the “thank f*** your not the teacher” card next year is a little too much but he bratty kid card is just a laugh.

  • I couldn’t imagine giving one to anyone.

  • It would depend on the teacher. There is only a couple that I know would see the funny side of it so be careful who you give them to. You never know if your child will have that teacher again.

  • These are quite funny but not everyone will take it the right way and I can see why some find it offensive. I can see why the teacher would take it to heart.

  • I giggled at two but honestly who in their right mind would buy “thankf*ck my kid doesn’t have you as their teacher next year” I understand their are good & bad in all professions but jeez… set an example for your children!

  • So I had a giggle but really it’s not appropriate.

  • I can see the outrage and why! Teaching runs in my family and is one of the greatest professions of giving to community.

  • These cards are insulting and disrespectful.

    Reply

  • Nothing ‘risque’ about them just poor taste. Sorry Love Layla, they aren’t lovely.

  • I would laugh at these in store and maybe give one to a friend of mine who is a teacher as a joke but I don’t think I would ever actually give one to my child’s teacher.

    Reply

  • It is not the type of card that I would buy for a teacher.

    • A handmade and personalised card is always much nicer.

    Reply

  • Maybe fun to look at but inappropriate and kind of disrespectful to hand out.

  • They are funny as long as the receiver has the same sense of humour

  • I would only give this type of card to someone I have a great relationship with and I know wouldn’t take offense to it. Im not sure if I would ever be that close to my kids teacher though.

    Reply

  • Ok I wouldn’t personally give one to my kids teachers but I see the funny side but I also see the teachers side. Teaching is a hard job and it could be a real kick in the guys to get a card like that after putting in so much for the year

    Reply

  • I wouldn’t give these to my kids teachers. Maybe to a teacher friend with the right sense of humor, though.

    Reply

  • Yeah. I wouldn’t give one to my son’s teacher. But each to their own.

  • A laugh in the right context, but not suitable for teachers and/or children to give to teachers!

    Reply

  • For me bad words are no fun, and I wouldn’t be happy with such a card!!

    Reply

  • It’s just a bit of fun but as a teacher I wouldn’t be very happy to get one.
