If you’re an 80s or 90s kid, you’ll fondly remember the diary that every child wanted for their birthday. With its magnetic close lip and sweet, fold-out design, a Dinky Diary was on everyone’s wish list. And now they’re back!

The iconic Aussie kids’ diary has made a return, thanks to Perth sisters Chelsea and Jerilee, who released their own range of Dinky Diary diaries!

“Reviving a treasured icon of the 1980s and early 1990s, the Dinky Diary, we want to capture the hearts of a new generation while evoking nostalgia in those who cherished them during their own youth,” they explained.

“Here’s to kids sitting down with their friends writing in a notebook on the grass, instead of being inside playing computer games!”

They’ve released a few different styles, which includes the O.G. (remember the bright blue one!), the Flashback Dinky and a couple of modern versions.

Priced at $34.95, the diaries include all of the original goodies – notes and homework pads, friends’ birthday lists, a loop for your pen and stickers. You can pre-order them now, for shipping in November.

Well done to these clever cookies for bringing back one of our favourite nostalgia moments of the 80s!

  • I have never heard of these but they look super cute and im sure my girls would have loved one each. They were all 80 and 90s kids but never mentioned them to me. I was always buying them decrotive writing pads and little diarys with fancy coloured pen sets

  • My family could never afford one of these for me and, I have 2 boys and they certainly didn’t want anything like these either. Now if I had a daughter, I definitely would have bought one

  • I had one of these when I was younger and am thinking of getting my daughter one for Christmas. I think she will love it.

  • I am a 1987 kid and I don’t remember these at all. They are cute, but don’t understand the fuss.

  • Ah, the ‘Dinky Diary’ – the ultimate childhood status symbol, making a magnetic close lip cooler than any magnet on the fridge! If only we could travel back in time and show our younger selves these revived treasures; they’d probably ask, ‘Does it come with a side of nostalgia?’. But hey, who needs a time machine when you’ve got diaries that bring back memories sweeter than any sticker inside?

  • I’ve never heard of these but I love a manual diary. When everything is heading to tech and online, it’s so refreshing to see something tangible that kids can use.

  • The big difference is that in the 80’s and 90’s there was no phone that also can keep the dates established for when you are doing what and where. Also my children tell me they can’t write that well – I guess it’s because they don’t have to practice like once we all would have done.

  • I got these from santa each year, felt very grown up to have a diary and plan things.

  • I don’t remember them. We didn’t have a lot of things growing up not because we were poor but because my parents probably thought it was unnecessary. The price today is a little steep though.

  • I am so excited! I can finally get my own instead of an almost finished hand-me-down from my sister!
