Halloween is almost upon us, and if trick-or-treating isn’t enough to keep your little ones busy, we’ve found some fun-filled game and craft ideas suitable for the whole family.

Halloween-themed game ideas

1. Mummy wrap

This is a super fun and inexpensive game that kids of all ages will love.

Organise everyone into teams of two and have one team member stand still with their hands by their side. The other team member, armed with a roll (or two) of toilet paper, then wraps them up like a mummy.

Set a time limit and the team that creates the best looking mummy wins a small prize.

2. Apple bobbing

Apple bobbing is a traditional Halloween game that will keep everyone entertained for hours.

Simply fill a bucket or tub with cold water and place four or five apples in, making sure they float.

Players then need to place their hands behind their backs while trying to rescue one of the apples from the water with their teeth.

3. Pin the wart on the witch

Why not put a spooky spin on “Pin the tail on the donkey” this Halloween and play “Pin the wart on the witch”.

Simply draw an outline of a witch on a large piece of cardboard, and hang it up on the wall (making sure it’s at a height children can reach). Then cut out a couple of large warts from brown cardboard, and pop some blue-tac on the back so they will stick to the witch.

Use a scarf as a blindfold, and let the kids take turns trying to stick the wart as close to the witch’s nose as possible. You can even have players spin around a few times beforehand, just to make it that little bit trickier.

The player who gets the wart closest to the witch’s nose WINS.

4. Ghost bowling

Everyone loves to bowl, and this game idea is a great way to incorporate Halloween.

Using a permanent marker, draw eyes onto six rolls of toilet paper (with the paper still on) to make them look like ghoulish ghosts. If you’re feeling creative, you can stick on googly plastic eyes instead. Then stack the rolls into a pyramid (three on the bottom row, two on the middle row and one on top).

Have the players stand approximately two metres from the stack, and let them take turns trying to bowl the toilet paper rolls over with a tennis ball.

Easy Halloween craft ideas

1. Paper Ghosts

These paper ghosts are quick and easy to create, and make fabulous party decorations.

To create your own at home, all you need to do is stick a skewer or popsicle stick into a small foam ball. Cover with a napkin and tie at the base with an orange ribbon.

Then using a permanent marker, add some eyes and scatter your ghoulish ghosts around the house.

2. Painted Rocks

This is such a great craft for little ones – not only do they get to practice their painting, but it’ll get them out into the garden too.

The first thing the kids will need to do is go hunting for rocks. The flatter they are, the easier they will be to paint. Then once they’ve got a collection of rocks, and they have decided what they would like to paint, set out acrylic paints and let them get creative.

Once the paint has dried, you can set them around the house, or even glue a magnet to the back of each rock and display them on the fridge.

3. Colouring-in masks

Masks are such an easy and inexpensive Halloween costume idea and we have created these fabulous downloadable versions.

Get the kids to colour-in their own (there’s four to choose from), cut them out (little ones will need your help with this), attach a string or ribbon to the tabs and voila!

4. Fun felt shapes

A fun craft idea for a rainy day, you can create all sorts of fun felt shapes with your children.

For the ghosts, cut out two identical ghoulish shapes from white felt. Then using a needle and black thread (the kids will need your help with this) stitch around the edge leaving around 2cm open.

Gently fill the inside with polyester stuffing (or even cotton wool), and finish stitching the ghost. Then once you’re done, add a cute face with a permanent marker.

5. Colouring-in posters
