One of Australia’s most frugal mums has revealed how she’s been able stick to a budget while making sure she finishes the popular Woolworths Minecraft Cubeez collectible set in super quick time. If you’re still trying to complete your set – get ready for some ripper tips!

Kelly, better known and the Frugal Fun Mum, is a busy mum of two special needs kids, who love collecting. So every time a new supermarket collectibles campaign rolls around, she knows it’s action stations! Kelly loves teaching other mums how to save and sharing tips on making frugal living fun. And we’re thrilled that she’s sharing her tips on completing the current collectibles craze – Minecraft Cubeez sets.

Kelly suggests starting at home, by looking through the weekly catalogues or online to see what’s on special at Woolies.

“I look at the catalogues each week to see what is on special I check against the brands which offer bonus Cubeez rewards and that’s when I will buy up to 3 (you can get a maximum of 3 bonus Cubeez per brand),” Kelly explained to Mouths of Mums.

“If something isn’t on special one week I just wait until the following week – the catalogues are released online at 5pm Monday nights so you can see if you would be better of shopping Tuesday for the current catalogue or wait until Wednesday when the new specials start.”

Kelly recommends stocking up on things that you frequently use in your house, everything from toiletries to cleaning supplies.

“I only buy things like toothpaste / brushes, deodorant when they are on sale during these promos so I have some stock pile now for the following year! The toothbrushes and toothpaste are everyday low prices so they are great value! You can get a toothbrush for only $2 and a bonus Cubeez – as they say you should replace your tooth brush every three months so stock up for a years supply and you will be covered!”

Becoming an Everyday Reward member is a huge plus, both throughout the year to save on your weekly shop, and during the collectibles promos.

“I am an Everyday Rewards member and I am emailed every week any bonus offers they have. They often have ‘double reward on the weekend for shoppers – so you could get twice the amount of Cubeez for the same shop!

“I am a massive markdown bargain hunter so I always look for the markdown stickers especially on the brand items. You are getting a great discount while you still qualify for the Cubeez. (Check to see if your store has a clearance rack – today I found 2 minute Maggi mug noodles on clearance – if they are something that you buy it’s a great saving and a Cubeez too.”

Kelly also suggests keeping an ear out when you’re checking out at the register – you never know how many extra Cubeez you could score!

“When I’m checking out at the register if I hear the person in front of me say they aren’t collecting i will ask would you mind if i have them – most people say ‘of course not’. I’ve done this with other promotions if we have finished our sets or I’ve asked the people behind us if they would like ours. Pay it forward!”

Finally, the mum-of-two recommends hunting for Cubeez without your local community.

“There are many people swapping and giving away their cubeez in many facebook groups, facebook marketplace and also our local Buy Nothing Group. It’s a great way to connect with others.  Sometimes the shops will have a trade day too where lots of people go to swap to help complete their sets. Usually we all talk to each other while we are in line and complete our sets!”

Other tips to completing your Woolworths Minecraft Cubeez Set

We also asked our fabulous Mouths of Mums community for their tips, and they came up with some brilliant ideas:

Emma-Louise: “I get the family as a collective to help collect them, and even ask my work colleagues too.I also check online at the offers available to get bonus Cubeez, and work my shopping list and meal plans around the bonus specials. My son also takes his spares to school to trade.”

KoKo: “We wear Minecraft Tshirt so the cashier knows we are collecting Minercraft Cubeez.”

  • This is one of the few collectible campaigns my kids really cared deeply about. I made a much bigger effort with it as a result, and both kids now have complete sets. I felt like such a winner. 🙂

  • This can definitely help people finish quicker but i dont go out of my way to buy things on purpose just to finish a set. I hope for the best and am lucky to have family and friends who have offered to help us finish since they dont have any kids

  • Woohoo! The Woolworths swap day just let both my kids complete their sets! They only needed two each, but thanks.

  • Or……you can find the checkout person that gives you more then you’ve earned. I often get twice the number I’ve qualified for by picking the right checkout person

  • Some very clever ideas here.

  • I agree with the suggestion to stock up on things you need that aren’t perishable, like toothpaste.

  • Such a common-sense way to go about collecting the collectibles that the stores put on from time to time. Although I don’t stress out of which products will give me an extra collectible or two, I do always check out which products will give me extra points so that my points score goes up faster than just the 1 point per dollar spent and that way I get $10 off my shop faster than normal as no-one I know these days has children young enough to want the collectibles anymore.

  • Some good hints to get your collection of Minecraft quickly from Woolworths. I love the suggestion of kids wearing Minecraft T-shirts when out shopping so the cashier knows you are collecting. It helps that others know as shoppers not usually collecting May give you theirs. I know that’s what I do.

  • The rewards deals often encourage us to spend more than what we need to. And the cubes to me are just another useless promotional product that’s assaulting our planet with its environmental impact. What ever happened to the discovery garden stuff? Also I think the writer also meant to ‘hunt for cubbees within your local community’ but mistakenly wrote ‘without’. As she does go on to suggest finding them on marketplace. Which I think is a better idea than buying more unnecessary groceries.

  • They are two juxtaposing ideas really. Being frugal and still trying to collect those silly gimmicks. My son always wants them, but I refuse to buy extra things just to collect the set. They are going to be forgotten about and end up in the garbage anyway. The whole thing is just to get you to buy extra products that you might not need. Even if they are half price, it’s still not worth it.

  • I definitely save money by not collecting. Ive learnt my lesson. When the kids play with them for a week and then they are in the bin, it’s not worth it.

  • Yes we’re in the same boat and my kids are not fans of minecraft. They fall apart as soon as you drop a cube too ! Bring back kitchen utensils or useful rewards instead !

  • These cubeez are such a hype! I donot encourage generally to go above and beyond to collect it but because all his friends are doing it and have almost completed their set, he feels sad so now am trying to maximum the collection with online shopping incorporing many of these tips from common sense and by asking friends for extras

  • We have been collecting these but my son is only five so he doesn’t fully understand what they are, he has been enjoying building them like building blocks which has been a lot of fun to do together. There are some really great pointers in this article on how to maximise your minecraft adventure!

  • I’ve been giving my dockets to any kiddos with their parents when leaving the store. They get sooo happy to have an extra few in their pockets. My little guy is way, way too small to even know what Minecraft is so I’m more than happy to give it to those who will love it

  • Yes that is so true that when you’re are kind and friendly the cassiers always give extra collectables. Often it works even stronger if you bring one of your cute kids along to the store. The rest of the tips are common sense and probably something what we all do (although personally I don’t look at bonus items simply because I’m not really interested in this collectable)

  • The current promotions at both of the major grocery stores do not on this occasion appeal to us. We always prefer promotions that are for cookware and kitchenware. We follow similar tips when those promotions run. We always prefer practical promotions that are practical and can be used in the home.

  • Personally it is not on my radar at all to finish the Woolworths Minecraft Cubeez set, nor is it on the mind of my child / children. I simply do my groceries and get what I get in regard to this collectable. My child brings them to school to share them with her peers who are more interested.

  • An interesting article and some helpful tips for those that might benefit. We always shop to the catalogue and shop specials. We tend to accrue these bonuses pretty quickly too. We are not actively collecting for this promotion but we are giving them to friends and family that are collecting.

  • I didn’t think my nearly two year old would be into them, but he loves them! To be fair, most of them get torn up pretty quickly, but he’s also learned what cubes are. I often ask the people in front of me if I can have their Cubeez if they’ve not got them at the check out. Works well for us!
