Hello!

Oh, how are we going to live without youuuuuuu….We’ve just heard the news that Jimmy Giggle is leaving the Hoot nest and we’re devastated.

Giggle and Hoot’s Jimmy Giggle, whose real name is James Rees, has been popping up on our TV for over 10 years now. But now the pyjama-clad ABC Kids star is stepping aside.

The popular kid’s segment has just shot its last episode ever. The 11th and final season will be aired until the beginning of next year. After that, the kid’s channel will most likely show repeats of Giggle and Hoot.

“For any TV show to get through 10 years is incredible,” said Rees, as reported in SMH.

“It’s been a really amazing job for me, a journey, whatever you want to call it. I’m just moving to a different phase of my life.”

“It’s not like the show’s going to stop. ABC will run the show probably till I’m about 50,” reassures Rees.

“This has been a really hard decision. But to the public, I’m sure I’ll be Jimmy Giggle for a long while.”

Family Time

Jimmy Giggle has stepped away from the show to spend more time with his kids – Lenny (4) and his twins, who are almost one and take a break from his “gruelling schedule”.

He is also keen to move his family closer to Victoria, where their extended family of cousins and grandparents live.

Rees already has some “projects in the works”. He is exploring potential jobs on radio and perhaps even appearances on 10, where he had a stint on Dancing With The Stars, before having to pull out due to his son’s medical scare.

“There are some irons in the fire, and it’s all very exciting,” he shared.

Giggle And Hoot Won’t Disappear

Libbie Doherty, head of ABC children’s production, has reassured parents that the TV station has “no plans to take the show off air”.

“It’s an Australian icon. For us, it’s become a treasured cornerstone of the channel, and parents reflect to us all the time how much they love it.”

“You never know how a show’s going to go,” says Doherty. “We created the show in a time before we had Netflix and streaming channels and when YouTube wasn’t the thing it is today – it’s held up through all of that… It’s a really special thing.”

Oh, we’re going to miss Jimmy, Hoot, Hootabelle and Giggle Fangs.

  • I enjoyed watching Giggle and Hoot when our older 2 watched it. They preferred it more than some of the other children’s shows. One of mine giggled at him every time he did or said something funny. One of them used to say “Giggle funny”
