We’re huge fans of Kmart’s ever-expanding inclusive dolls range, and the retail giant has just launched two new additions.

Kmart’s new Guide Dog Handler Dolls include Luke and Guide Dog and Lacey and Guide Dog, which cost just $5 each. The new dolls are part of a growing movement by Kmart to promote inclusion, and were created with advice from Guide Dogs Australia.

“Our relationship with Guide Dogs Australia is a flourishing one, and we know that one in five people have a disability in Australia,” said Kmart Head of Diversity and Inclusion Marcelle Harrison. “We wanted to work with Guide Dogs Australia to really reflect the community in which we operate and part of that is creating dolls that reflect the people that shop in our stores and are part of everyday Australia.

“Seeing yourself in a doll on our shelves, we really believe that we can have a broader social impact in the community because it reduces stigma and it normalises disability. It really says that being unique is absolutely ok.”

The new dolls join a growing range of diverse Kmart dolls like the Riley Wheelchair Doll, Vision Impaired Harlen Doll, Baby Charlie and Amelia with Down Syndrome and assorted fashion dolls.

Do your kids have any of Kmart’s inclusive dolls?

  • It’s nice to see these different inclusive dolls on the market as then kids are exposed to them. If they haven’t met someone in real life who has a disability then these dolls can help to teach them.

  • LOVE, LOVE LOVE!!!!! I’m in love with all the dolls. I will definitely buy them. It’s so important to teach our children to respect and to include everyone and the dolls definitely teach many adults that we are all equal with our differences.

  • Definitely something that’s been lacking in dolls I think. It’s great to see some realistic representations finally.
