Kids are going crazy over the latest supermarket collectibles, after Woolworths and BIG W revealed they’ve partnered with Minecraft for the latest collectibles craze.

Following on from the Disney Worlds of Wonder collectible cards, Minecraft Cubeez became available in both retailers from January 29th, free with every $30 spent in a single transaction in-store or online at Woolworths, BIG W, MILKRUN and select Woolworths Metro stores.

Each pack contains a buildable cardboard block, with 40 Cubeez to collect. Characters and creatures including Steve and Alex, creepers, Enderman as well as the crafting table and diamond ore. It comes ahead of the release of the Minecraft movie in April this year.

“We are thrilled to partner with Woolworths and BIG W, to bring this exciting retail partnership, Minecraft CubeezTM to our Australian fans,” Senior Director of Minecraft Consumer Products Federico San Martin said.

“This collaboration is a testament to the enduring popularity of Minecraft and its ability to inspire creativity and imagination both on and off the screen.”

  • We’ve definitely suffered from a bit of collectibles fatigue recently, but this was one that my Minecraft mad boy really liked. And he still has them, and still values the fact that I managed to get the whole set for him. But most other collectibles seem to get discarded really quickly.

  • I am so glad that I didnt have to worry about these things. I wonder how many kids still play with these. I am guessing not many and they just became dust collectors under the bed.
I much prefer the adults things like kitchen containers and the knives. No more silly cards

  • To be honest I am finding these collectibles to be quite tiresome and not worth the time, effort and money one has to spend to get all 40 collectibles items. I am still missing four numbers to make up the complete set of 40 to collect. So much duplication of the same numbers, its ridiculous and costly.
    Will not be doing again.

  • I’ve been giving kiddos my tickets at the check outs and they are so happy, and their parents are always grateful. It’s fun when there is a give away that makes people happy

  • It’s a cute idea with Minecraft being so big at the moment, but at the end of the day, these types of little cardboard constructibles are just a waste of time. They’re flimsy and will not be played with for long and just being something that pops up all over the house.

  • Not something I will be collecting, but I’m happy to collect for friends.

  • I cannot wait to surprise my girls with this collection. We always collect everything Coles and woolies bring out. But mine craft will be the biggest surprise for them. Miss 5 will be ecstatic and I love keeping it a surprise. It’s probably the best theme for her yet! I know she will be excited to build them.. but the collector in me might have to collect myself a set

  • My kids played Minecraft many years ago, but I didn’t know it’s still such a popular game ! It does show that the game is enduring in it’s popularity. It’s nice that this collectable inspires to creativity and imagination off the screen, cause in the end of the day who doesn’t want their kids to go off the screen ?

  • Curses, I did a big shop today thinking it had already started – my kids have ignored the last few, but they’re interested in this one.

  • Really not excited about this one. In the past my kids have collected similar ones and they end up everywhere in the house. I won’t be even mentioning it to them although they generally hear about it at school. I prefer the store doing points for homeware items such as knives, container sets etc

  • I don’t have anyone in my family who would want these but if I hear of anyone in my area who are going to be collecting them, then I will give them away. Otherwise I’ll just say no when I get to the checkout or when I do my order on line. I usually collect for my neighbour but not sure she’ll want these for her son.

  • Minecraft; no I don’t know and don’t want to start. I’m sure it will suit lots of people and I will share any packs I receive with those who love this. Hopefully it doesn’t end up a lot of landfill with wasted packs but I’m sure that’s what will happen.

  • Oh no! Not another one! My kids guilt me into allowing them to collect these with my shop and then they end up being all over the house. They don’t really want them, it’s a 5 minute wonder that they just have to have because they happen to like whatever franchise Woolworths or Coles is working with at the time.

  • I am grateful mine isn’t old enough to be into these things yet. And I hope never! Is that even possible?!

I’ve got several nieces and nephews into Minecraft and I really do not get it! I don’t see the appeal and find it boring. Am I the only one?

  • My kids will be obsessed no doubt.

  • We are not keen on this collectibles promotion but it appears many are quite excited by this promotion. Along with giving them to family and friends we will also give them to people at work that will be actively collecting. This promotion seems to be a very popular one and it will be interesting to watch.

  • Pretty sure my kids would love these. I’m generally not a Woolworths shopper but I will collect them if I do shop there at all. My son especially loves Minecraft so I’m sure he’ll be hinting at me changing my shopping rabbits at least while this promotion is on anyway 🙂

  • I am surprised with another collectibles promotions to start off the year and it appears some of the major supermarkets are competing at the same time for shoppers. This is not a promotion that interests us but we will collect and give to family and friends that want to collect and complete collections.
