Hello!

Kids went back to school around the country this week and I found myself inundated with celebration posts by parents on social media.

I though felt quite the opposite and alone in my feelings.

Yesterday after I dropped my 4 kids at school, I cried and bawled and felt like my heart had been ripped out.

I was mourning the end of holidays and the end of the weeks that we got to spend together; the Summer holidays that had seemed endless but went too fast.

Now don’t get me wrong, my kids drive me up the wall and crazy and they certainly do fight among themselves just like everyone elses.

But I LOVE the school holidays.

I love not only the chance to stop all the routine and rushing around but the time we get to be together as a family.

Life during the term is busy and hectic and weekends seemed to always be filled with parties, things to do and places to be, but in the holidays we stop.

In the holidays, I don’t plan days out trying keeping the kids entertained, we stay at home mostly and they just love spending time at home playing. We catch up on spending time together that we miss out on during the hectic term.

And so now the countdown begins to the next school holidays, eight weeks and counting.

Do you love the school holidays?

  • I don’t mind the school holidays. We never go anywhere though.
I’ve never been one to complain about them but the last 2 weeks of the Christmas ones got a bit too much with my eldest 2

  • It gives the children more relaxing time to spend with grandparents and other relatives too. That was my favourite thing about school holidays as a child. Our children also love the free time to catch up with their cousins and other children – some of them from school, especially those who have moved and changed schools

  • I love school holidays too. Life is so much easier. I don’t need to set the alarm. And now 4 days a week alarm at 5:30, once a week at 4:45 (sigh!) and on Saturday at 6:15. Sunday is the only day alarm clock-free! I love the freedom that comes with school holidays, the evenings playing boarding games, the little excursions…

  • Totally agree with you. Love the not having to be anywhere by a certain time. Kick back have a swim, play board games, go camping and just hangout together.

    • This sounds exactly like my hols and I mourn the loss of them! :(
