Article Mum begs parents please don’t shame and compare children’s milestones

A mum of triplets has hit back at ‘concerned’ followers who suggested her young children should really be walking.

Farron Sullivan, 28, is a nurse and mother to 15-month-old babies Zadie, Brodie and Harlen who have kept her and fiance Mark Owen’s hands full since 2016.

The Queensland mum has an Instagram page with over 200,000 followers – a forum which often leaves her open to unwanted public criticism about how she raises her two boys and girl.

‘To all the people that keep asking me whether I am concerned about the boys not walking yet… or that I should be concerned.. The answer is no,’ the young mother wrote.

‘They run with their walkers and are standing unaided.’

Hitting back at the countless opinions of strangers, Farron told Daily Mail Australia it is never fair to compare different children or the age they reach milestones.

‘Even though the trio are exactly the same age, I don’t compare them. They have three completely different personalities and each are one of a kind,’ she said. ‘All three are apparently saying more words than expected for their age and I have no concerns regarding their milestones for walking.’

‘Harlen had a massive setback with his surgeries this year and it really affected his balance for a while,’ she wrote.

‘Brodie is not as physically strong as the others and has taken longer to reach his milestones which have still been within normal limits. Even if they aren’t…. so what?’ she asked on her Instagram.

‘Instead of telling parents to worry and be concerned be supportive. Each child is different so please do not compare to anyone else. Plus I am in no rush to have all three running around,’ Farron added.

‘The downfall to having a public account is that each picture and video I put up is open to different opinions, including negative comments,’ she previously told blog Food Babies Love.

‘I don’t think people realise that their comments can affect me as a mother. ‘Thankfully, this isn’t very often, the positive outweighs the bad and I love sharing the three little Owens’ lives with others.’

  • Every child is difference and develops at their own pace. No good comes out of comparisons.

  • kids do develop at their own pace and in different ways. Cool first pic though 🙂 triplets would be a lot of work

  • Posting on social media and being public with your life opens you up to the good and the bad comments. Hopefully most are good; all children develop at different times and there is no point comparing children. If ever in doubt about milestones then see a GP.

  • As you well know, if you post on social media you will be bound to get some negativity…
    Your three are adorable, let them develop at their own pace and enjoy the ride with them.

  • Kids develop at different stages and at their own pace – there is absolutely nothing to worry about and people would do better than to interfere and cast negative aspersions!

  • 15 months is way too early to start worrying. Especially if the can stand unaided. People need to learn to shut up. Even if there is something wrong I’m sure she has plenty of dr and health nurse visits to pick it up and doesn’t need the judgies on social media to do it.

  • Unbelievable where people feel the need to shame eachother about ! My son walked with 17 months and I never even wondered or considered that he was a late walker and to be honest I don’t think he was. Every child develops in their own pace, give them that space !

  • I can’t believe people would even comment about that – so what every child does things at different ages – no where is their a directive saying your child must walk by a certain age.

    I hate seeing mums having to justify themselves and protect themselves from keyboard warriors on facebook and instagram etc – its not like this mum really would have the time spare to continuously having to defend herself and her kids!
