A Perth mother is calling for a safety upgrade to playground swings after her young child was almost strangled.

Fiona and her son were playing at the Sienna Wood Shipwreck Park near Armidale, late last week.

The mum claimed she strapped her son in tight but the safety buckle still came loose and her son he was left hanging by his neck.

“The harness undid from between his legs and he just fell forward and was literally hanging from his neck”, mum Fiona explains.

Fiona, 31-year-old spoke exclusively to Nine News to warn parents about the potential danger.

She rushed her son to the doctor and she was told he was a very lucky little boy.  The doctor advised her he could have broke his neck.

She now wants the buckles replaced and kids safety taken into better consideration.
