Halloween party treats aren’t known for being low in sugar, but there’s no reason they can’t be.

Making great tasting, nutritious treats together using peanut butter as the main ingredient also means that kids receive a slower release of energy from the treats, instead of the impending sugar-high that they can often experience from other lollies and chocolates.

So if you’re looking to create some spooky snacks with the kids this Halloween, this recipe from Mayver’s is super simple, tastes great and is healthy to boot!

Happy haunting!

Ingredients (serves 6 | makes 20 Batty Bliss Balls)

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup LSA
  • 1/4 cup chia seeds
  • 1/4 cup mixed nuts (e.g. almonds, walnuts, brazil nuts)
  • 3 medjool dates, pitted
  • 1/2 cup Mayver's Dark Roasted Crunchy Peanut Butter
  • 2 tbsp coconut oil, melted
  • 1 tbsp cacao powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup water
  • FOR DECORATION
  • 1/4 cup desiccated coconut (for decoration)
  • 1/2 tbsp cacao
  • Candy eyes
  • Small handful sunflower seeds
  • 6 lint dark chocolate - needs to be thin, shard like chocolate

Method

  1. Combine all ingredients, except water, in a food processor and process until smooth.
  2. Slowly add small amounts of water to the mixture, processing after each addition, until the mixture holds together when shaped into a ball (you may not need to use all the water).
  3. Roll teaspoon amounts of mixture into balls. Combine desiccated coconut and extra cacao on small plate and roll half of the balls in this.
  4. Use a sharp knife to cut chocolate into wing-like shards and insert into balls to create bat wings.
  5. Decorate with candy eyes and sunflower seeds as fangs. Store in container in fridge.

Notes

Mayver's tip: if you don't have any candy eyes, you can make your own! Dip small white chocolate drops into some melted dark chocolate and set in fridge.

  • I’m not able to get a lot of these ingredients so I’ll have to improvise to get this effect. They are cute though

  • There’s way too many ingredients in these that I don’t have or use, but I could definitely make a version of these. They look awesome.
