These cheese straws are very easy and fun for kids to make. You can use mustard for a stronger flavour or you can do without mustard.

Ingredients (makes 8 pieces)

  • 1 sheet Puff Pastry
  • 1 cup cheddar / tasty cheese grated
  • 1 Tbsp Parmesan cheese
  • mustard

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees c. Spread a really thin layer of mustard on top of pastry.
  2. Sprinkle evenly with parmesan and cheddar.
  3. Cut into strips and put on baking tray leaving gaps as they will puff up.
  4. Bake in oven 200C until golden and crispy. Cool on wire tray.

  • Very easy to make and good for snack.

  • I had spare pastry from cooking the other day. What a great idea to use it up.

  • this is a great recipe. the name is cute also. I think that the kids would be happy to see this in the lunch box. I think that you wouldn’t have leftovers but are these ok to freeze? thanks for posting this

    • I have never tried to freeze them as they all get eaten in one sitting! But could be good to experiment to see how well they freeze.
