A week-day night favourite in our house. Quick, easy and substantial after a day at work.

Ingredients (serves 2)

  • 4 slices Grainy bread (or focaccia )
  • 2 pieces good steak ( cut in to thin pieces and pounded out )
  • 1 lg tomato (sliced)
  • 2-3 lettuce leaves ( shredded)
  • Roasted capsicum strips
  • small tin sliced beetroot
  • Tasty cheese ( sliced)
  • 2 tbs mayonnaise
  • 1 med onion ( sliced )
  • splash balsamic vinegar
  • salt and pepper
  • hot sauce ( optional)

Method

  1. Fry onion in a little butter l, when softened add vinegar and continue to cook gently until soft
  2. Fry steak in a little butter and olive oil. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Fry gently then turn and sprinkle with a little more salt and pepper ( a dash of red wine, and other herbs you desire can be added at this stage)
  3. Toast bread on one side and spread Mayo on un toasted side Layer steak , onion and other ingredients on top, add sauce . Top with second piece of toast.

Notes

This is not so much a recipe as a suggestion. We often vary the fillings and flavours as to what we feel like on the night. It's quick and easy. Make sure you have serviettes on hand .. It can get a little messy ! ENJOY

  • I make this type of sandwiches for my husband. We don’t use mayo or sauce, as we don’t like it and it’s not really healthy

  • Oh wow yum this steak sandwich looks so delicious. I know it can be very messy and has a lot of ingredients but I’m sure my family would love this steak sandwich. It has meat tick, tomato tick, cheese tick, beetroot tick, lettuce tick and of course mayonnaise. Looks perfect.
