This is so different from the shop bought schnitzel, much much tastier. Serve with veggies of your choice, I have mashed potato, mashed carrot and parsnip and steamed zucchini. It’s delicious served with gravy or a cheese sauce

Ingredients (serves 2)

  • 2 Rump steaks
  • 1 Egg, beaten
  • 1 Tblsp Plain flour
  • 1 Tblsp Grated Parmesan
  • 2 tsp Season all
  • 2 tsp Garlic powder
  • 1 cup Breadcrumbs
  • Sprinkle Salt and pepper

Method

  1. Pound steaks to tenderise and flatten.
  2. Mix together breadcrumbs, parmesan, garlic powder, season all, salt and pepper.
  3. Toss steaks in flour, dip in beaten egg and coat in breadcrumb mix.
  4. Fry in a little oil and butter, combined, until golden brown, crunchy and delicious.
  5. Serve with veggies of your choice. Gravy or cheese sauce are lovely accompaniments.

  • This sounds a lot like a delicious beef schnitzel I had at a restaurant not long ago. Heaven help me if I can replicate that dish at home! Haha.

  • Schnitzel from rump steak never had it as mine are normally either chicken or pork. Will have to try this.

    • I agree – homemade schnitzel is just so tender and the coasting is always crunchy.

  • rump steak? I use different cuts of meat – even good old bbq steak, just ask butcher to throw it through the tenderiser again…. cheaper and yum!

  • Agree with previous comment, the pre-made ones in the main supermarkets are cardboard like.
