  • Gets so much use

Ever since getting our stand mixer we use it all the time. We most recently made a cake with it and absolutely love how easy it is to use. Even my four year old is able to operate it. The stand mixer is also super easy to take apart and put back together. It’s also very easy to clean and to store.

  • Definitely a kitchen must have

The last three and a half weeks I haven’t been able to do anything special with Lexi so today being a rainy day and Lexi absolutely needing and deserving some extra love we baked some brownies. I love how easy our Kenwood Baker is to use and it’s a great way to show Lexi how to use the scales when they’re built into the mixer. We just did a simple mix today but Lexi loved adding some extra smarties to them and we couldn’t wait to try one. ????

  • Making delicious focaccia, so easy & quick!

Honestly, I never thought that I can be good at baking. Probably the reason why my attempts were not always successful before was not following the recipe. The built in scales make such a big difference for me, it is just too easy not to follow the recipe. Check out below the focaccia I made today. It turned out so delicious!

    Ingredients:

    * 500g white organic flour , plus extra for dusting

    * 7g dried fast action yeast

    * 2 tsp fine sea salt

    * 5 tbsp extra virgin olive oil , plus extra for the tin and to serve

    * 350-400ml likewarm water

    * 1 tsp flaky sea salt

    * 3-4 spoons dry rosemary if you don’t have fresh

    * 3-4 spoons dry thyme

    * 8 cheery tomatoes cut in half

    Method:

Add all in the bowl starting with the flour, yeast, like warm water, olive oil, salt, dry thyme and rosemary. Use Kenwood Titanium Chef Baker XL with 5l bowl and Steel Dough Hook to mix all the ingredients. Use a spatula if any flour is left around the bowl. No hands needed, the Chef Baker does it all!

Spray the baking tray with olive oil and spread the dough evenly. Added the cherry tomatoes and left in the oven for an hour to raise. Bake on 220 degrees Celsius for 35min. 25 min in, brush two spoons of extra virgin olive oil, water and salt. When ready leave the cool dough and it is ready to eat!

The recipe was inspired by https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/focaccia/amp and tweaked to my taste. Enjoy!

  • First impressions - amazing!

I’m so excited to be part of the team reviewing the Kenwood Titanium Chef Baker XL!

My first impressions on receiving the box was the weight - it’s sturdy and deserves a spot on your bench!

I love that it comes with two bowls - the smaller one sits inside the larger one so it’s easy to store. It also means there’s less need for washing up in the middle of a bake!

There’s quite a few different attachments that come with it for different types of mixing, a spatula and splash guard. What I’m excited about is the built in scales - another time saver!

I can’t wait to start baking!

  • Perfect for ANZAC Biscuits

It arrived at the perfect time. I allowed my 4 year old to use it before anyone else and she loved she could make ANZAC Biscuits. Absolutely love how easy it is to use and the parts are really easy to clean too. It’s fantastic how you can select exactly what you want to help make baking a breeze. I love the added splash guard prevents things coming out of the bowl. I think the mixer definitely just helped us to make our best ever ANZAC Biscuits. The whole family gave them the tick of approval.

  • A must have for home bakers!

It’s been a pleasure trying out the Kenwood Titanium Chef Baker XL. It comes with so many attachments (like the K Beater, second bowl and more!) that you have everything you need to really up your baking game.

I love the built in scales - makes measuring faster - and the second bowl is so convenient to keep creating without having to stop and do some washing up.

I did find the splash guard a little tricky to attach but otherwise everything else was very intuitive to use. And for all the style lovers, you can switch out the top cover to match your decor!

Definitive recommend this if you’re looking to upgrade from a hand mixer.

  • A wonderful way to expand your baking repertoire

It’s been great trialling the Kenwood Chef Baker XL. I’ve always been daunted at the thought of baking bread and trying to knead dough. Using the dough spiral tool makes kneading dough a breeze.

I used the Milk Bread recipe in the Kenwood website and was so happy with how they turned out. It’s so handy having the different attachments and I love the built in scale and timer which shows how long the mixing has been going for.

  • Best way to make buttercream icing!

I make a lot of icing, so I knew the Kenwood Chef Baker XL mixer would come in extremely handy.

Many times I need to make several batches for icing cakes, so the inclusion of 2 bowls with this mixer saves me from washing dishes to reuse the same bowl each time.

The creaming beater (pictured in the photo), is so effective. It reaches all areas of the bowl, even the very bottom! So there are no bits of unbeaten butter or other ingredients that the may be missed by the beaters. I was so impressed with this beater!! My icing turned out perfect, with a beautiful smooth consistency.

  • Easyweigh scales saves me time!

I used the Kenwood Baker XL to make this delicious Ginger Bundt Cake. My favourite feature has to be the easyweigh inbuilt scales. It saves so much time, as well as cutting down on extra dishes!

I added each ingredient to the bowl, and this clever machine weighed it for me at the same time! I would recommend this mixer based on this feature alone!

  • Great for cakes!

Being a first time stand mixer user, I decided to start with baking a basic sponge cake using the Kenwood Chef Baker XL that I’m trialling.

I used the recipe from the Kenwood website which resulted in a deliciously light and fluffy sponge that wasn’t too dry. Cake mixes use the K beater tool which is nice and solid.

I love that you can weigh ingredients into the bowl with the built in scale and much less mess than a traditional hand mixer. The integrated timer was handy as well to know how long it has been mixing for.

Loving the mixer so far and can’t wait to test it out some more!

Loved the inbuilt scales I used one bowl for measuring it just so convenient. I used another for the cake batter. So handy having two bowl. The stand mixer is powerful and works so well. Highly recommend it.

  • Kenwood Titanium Chef Baker XL First Impressions

So excited to receive my Kenwood Titanium Chef Baker XL Stand Mixer. I absolutely love baking and I can’t wait to make some cupcakes for my boys. So my first impression was I so impressed to see so many items included in the box. Everything I need for my baking creations. Included were 7L Stainless Steel Bowl, 5L Stainless Steel Bowl, Stainless Steel K-Beater, Stainless Steel Dough Hook, Creaming Beater, Stainless Steel Whisk, Splash Guard & Spatula. So convenient having two bowls especially when I make cupcakes one for the batter and another for the buttercream. The standout feature on the Kenwood Titanium Chef Baker XL is the in built EasyWeigh Scales. I can’t get over how amazing it is to have such a necessity item inbuilt into the stand mixer and it’s so convenient. Having a variety of attachments I can make all sorts of desserts, bread, pizza and so much more. I love that includes a splash guard too, no more mess in my kitchen. Such a beautiful design very simple and elegant that would suit every kitchen. I was reading a booklet that was in the box, that additional attachments can be purchased like a juicer, pasta maker, mincer and so on. This is absolutely amazing to have a all in one appliance.

  • My first baking session with the Kenwood Baker XL

Ok, I am sold on this machine based purely off the inbuilt scales!!!! I decided to use the Kenwood recipe for the ‘celebration cake’, but turn it into cupcakes for Mother’s Day.

I measured out all the ingredients straight into the bowl using the inbuilt scales, an absolute game changer!!! ????????

Then as soon as I turned the machine on, the scale screen changed to to a clock and it then kept track of how long the machine had been mixing. Another great feature!

Making these cupcakes and the icing were a breeze, plus they were delicious! Not only do I recommend this mixer, but also the recipe! ❤️

How to choose the best lunch box for school

When you’re searching for a kids’ lunch box, take the time to work out what will best suit their needs. If you make the right choice and invest in a quality one, it will last many years.

  • Box, bento or bag? If your child doesn’t like different foods touching, a bento lunch box is a great choice. Also, think about whether they prefer cut-up or whole fruit; a bento is better suited to cut food, while bags and boxes suit whole fruit. Bags are fantastic if you like to pack separate containers, like smaller bento or snack containers.
  • Freshness is a must – An insulated bag or box will keep everything cool and fresh until snack and lunchtime. But you can also get boxes that come with cold and ice packs. Remember, kids’ lunches often sit at room temperature for up to 5 or 6 hours before they’re eaten, so insulation and coolness are important. Check out how to keep school lunches safe in the heat.
  • Easy-to-clean design – Check if the box is dishwasher-safe, or for lunch bags, if they’re machine-washable.
  • Leak-proof – The last thing you want is a soggy mess at lunchtime, so if buying a hard lunch box, look for designs that are leak-proof with proper seals.
  • Child-friendly – Depending on your child’s motor skills and independence, you may need to start with a product that’s simple to open and close.
  • The right size – We tend to pack way too much in our kids’ lunches, so think about how much realistically you’ll need to pack for your child when choosing the size of their lunch box. You may also need to consider the size of their school bags.

What to put in kids’ lunch boxes

Health professionals agree that kids need a good balance of lean protein, grains, fruit and vegetables throughout the school day. Skip the processed food and try to reach for whole foods that pack a punch in the nutrient department. Here are some great ideas:

  • Grilled chicken or turkey wraps with fresh salad
  • Crackers and vegetable sticks with healthy dips like hummus
  • Whole-grain pasta with cherry tomatoes and your choice of cheese
  • Zucchini slice cut into rectangles for easy stacking in an insulated box
  • Almond-meal slice with raspberries or blueberries – or both!
  • Vegetarian sausage rolls – these freeze well and make a great meat-free lunch when cold.

  • That lunchbox comparison table is handy to have. It helped me make a decision on which lunchbox to buy next for my daughter who is starting kindergarten. I needed to upgrade her lunchbox but wasn’t sure which way to go. The table helped me with my decision. I ended up going with the BBOX and have found a cheaper lunch bag from a department store that it fits in.

  • I do not know if anyone else has picked up on this or not, but every bag mentioned in the table above is a ‘designer’ brand. There are plenty of more affordable options that aren’t over $40. I have never spent that much on a lunchbox – even from Smiggle. The cheaper brands last just as well too.

  • Getting ready for the return to school has started to kick in so this was a timely read. We have the yum box and i love it, it is so easy for my daughter to open and close on her own. I find the lunch cooler bags also a great idea however some days depending on what else needs to go to school, they can be quite bulky to include in the school bag. I need to do some more research this year as i like the idea of being able to watch it in the washing machine, that is a clever idea.

  • Along with all of the other back to school products; there is also a good range of lunch boxes available for people to buy. It has been fun to see the wide range of bottles and lunch boxes that are available for the new year for school and for work.

  • Lunch boxes have come such a long way since my eldest was a kid, he’s now 26! There’s really a solution to everything from food heating, cooling, dividers, pockets etc etc. Lunch boxes are a real fashion accessory and so on-trend these days. I personally love the Bento lunch boxes. They save on plastic and separate different foods.

  • I am such a huge fan of Bento lunch boxes and Bento. Food should be so many wonderful things; including delicious, fun, colourful and nutritious too. Lunch is a favourite meal because the body is ready for some more calories and a boost of energy. Food looks so good in Bento lunch boxes.

  • So so many fantastic options! We use the montii co ones for our kdis and swear by it. Its lasted 3 years so far and still standing strong, like new since the first day using it. They are so durable and i find cleaning them to be the easiest for us.

  • There are so many great lunch box option out there indeed ! I’ve always liked the Bento style lunch boxes for my kids. It reduces the use of plastic lunch bags and packaged food which aren’t very good for the environment and it encourages to present a good variety of foods (which is not only better nutrition wise but lao to prevent our kids from getting bored with same foods all the time.

  • There are some really fabulous options here. So many variations of colour, shape and size. I love the bento style lunch boxes, so handy to keep food separate and eliminate the use of plastic packaging. The machine washable bags are a great idea too. They can get grubby so fast, this would be so much easier to maintain

  • This has gotten much easier since my kids hit high school – they have strong opinions about their lunch boxes, so I don’t have to think about it so much anymore! However, I am strongly in favor of bento style boxes regardless of their age. They’re easy to clean, easy to pack, and invite appropriate sized portions.

  • Great article! Our kids are so lucky, when it comes to lunchboxes, they really are spoilt for choice. There are so many to pick from. Regarding sandwiches, my eldest son, used to hate sandwiches for school lunches. It wasn’t until many years later that I discovered that he’d throw out his sandwiches in the playground bins. My son’s an adult now and he still hates sandwiches. He only likes “hot” lunches. So glad he lives on his own now and can make his own “hot” lunches just the way he likes them.

  • This is super useful article and thank you. I can see so variety of lunch boxes from every store. Always wonder which one would be more convenient to use by little hands. I love some of these lunchboxes to give it a try for this year. And then decide to go with suitable ones

  • Wow, lunch boxes have really come such a long way from when I was taking a lunch box to school. Feel old, like “back in my day”, but we were lucky to have options like are available now. While I like some of these designs, I feel like they aren’t super practical.

    Reply

  • These lunchboxes are beautiful but are they really worth the expensive price tag? I have been through so many lunch boxes and bags over the years and found the best it to use an insulated lunchbox bag with ice brick and use small containers to keep individual items fresh and assessable.

  • I love the bbox lunch boxes. They are so reliable and tough when kids throw their bags around. Easy to wash and store. I have used the we can be tiny snackies at home too. The boys love choosing a certain animal shape. They wash well, are durable and great quality.

  • My kids are old enough now to pack their own lunches and I am so happy to see the great choices they are making. They take left over meals, cook food in the morning to take and now I am confident they aren’t throwing away sandwiches! I do have the chilly bags for them, I find they fit better into bags

  • Love our bento b.boxes. So easy to pack. I do however worry that they’re made of plastic, not metal….

    Reply

  • My daughter uses a bento box now for work and sometimes an insulated bag in summer, but when she was at school it was a rectangular lunch box with no compartments. It was very easy to wash each day, just the box and lid, and it could still be filled with rolls/sandwiches and snacks.

    Reply

  • Lunchboxes are so important these days. Back in my day it was a brown paper bag or the exact same lunch box that everyone else had and there were three compartments. Today its such a fashion statement and as much as the lunchbox itself is judged so are the contents.
