There is nothing better you can give your baby than the health-enhancing benefits of breast milk. Phillips Avent’s range of breast pumps and accessories have been designed to help you do so for as long as you like, as easily as possible. The revolutionary design of our pumps has been acclaimed by mothers and health professionals worldwide.
The Phillips Avent Manual Breast Pump was the first ever designed to stimulate milk flow in a way that closely mimics the sucking action of a baby. There is simply no gentler, faster or more natural way to express milk. The Phillips Avent Manual Breast Pump has not only been clinically proven to be as effective as a hospital-grade electric pump – it was rated significantly more comfortable and pleasant to use.
I bought this before my first born, used it a few times only (in the first few weeks when breast feeding directly was too painful). Luckily bubba and I adjusted and now I don’t need to use the pump. OK for the occasional use, but can get tiring on a late night continually pumping trying to stay awake.
I Got mine back in 2003 when i had my first child and it was wonderful!
I got mastitas and my boobs constantly hurt the only thing that would releive the pressure was this pump. I loved the fact i could control how much pressure was used and it felt comfortable to me and my DD’s.
Years later when i had my second and third child i used it again to build up my supply and then to store extra – for that one night away – and i have reccomended it to other future mums and friends of mine.
The best part was how easy it was to clean and i could steralise the whole thing in the microwave.
My baby is 7.5 months old and I had given up on expressing as my milk supply has settled down to the point where I was not able to express anymore. With the offer to test the Phillips Avent Pump I decided to give it another go – esp as I need to return to work soon.
The Avent Pump is very comfortable and extremely easy to use. By using the pump a couple of times a day my milk supply has slowly increased so that I am now able to express again. What a relief!
This is a fantastic pump to use. I have coupled it with the storage cups so I can just pop the milk straight into the freezer – so convenient.
What a relief! I had an awful thumping headache last night. My hubby offered to get up and give our 4mth old his night feed using some expressed milk I had in the fridge, which I had pumped earlier that day. Thank goodness for the Advent pump!
If you are expecting or a new Mum -This is the pump to buy! I found it very easy to put together, comfortable to use and it very quickly triggered my ‘let down’.
The instructions inside were very informative – I learnt quite a few things! I also love how you can fit either size Avent bottles onto this pump. You can adjust the pressure with your hand so it will perfectly adapt to any womans style of expressing. Remember expressing takes time to get the hang of, and remember to relax, if possibly express while baby is feeding on one side as this often helps.
Keep persevering with breastfeeding, ask for help if you hit problems, if you get mastitis or painful blockages, get this pump on before a feed, it will help to clear it faster.
Breastfeeding is the best start for your baby….a lovely lactation consultant said to me once “What you can do for your babies immune system by breastfeeding for at least its first year of life it carries for the next 80 years”.
Well done Avent for coming up with a smart range of products that make life easier for breastfeeding mums!
I wish that I could have given this a proper review, but I’m still only expecting my first child. I’m 38 weeks. I will say that I bought an electric pump before signing up for this review and the manual one looks far less complicated and actually looks like it will be a lot more comfortable to use. Unfortunately I haven’t used it yet though so I can’t give a very thorough review. I’ll be sure to post a proper review once I’ve had a chance to use it 🙂
I have been using the pump for over a week now and my milk supply had increased significantly. My baby slept 12 hours last night (yay!!) and I didn’t want to wake him to feed him. I used the pump to express some milk as I needed to get some out for my own comfort. I have a good supply in the freezer and even managed to go out for a little while the other day on my own, while my hubby looked after our bub. It was nice to have a little break and know that I didn’t have to rush home to feed now that we have some ready to go. I am very happy with the pump and would recommend it.
I’m still using my Avent breastpump and still loving it. It is so easy to take apart to clean and put back together. I have the Avent microwave steam steriliser so it is made to fit the breastpump in perfectly – fantastic idea to have everything that fits together so nicely. I bought the Avent milk storage system too so am now building up a supply in the freezer!! 🙂
Thanks Mouths of Mums for the chance to try this great product!!
I used my Philips AVENT Manual Breast Pump for the first time yesterday as I had to express milk to attend a business meeting. Having arthritis in my hands I thought that pumping manually may be difficult or painful, so the biggest plus for this product so far from my perspective is how easy and painfree it was to use. The pump action is quite powerful and easy to operate with just one hand, and does not require much force to operate. The second biggest plus is that I found it very comfortable to pump, and the feeling was not dissimilar to breasyfeeding my baby with the milk flowing freely after only a few seconds.
Some other positives were:
– the pump is easy to take apart and put back together- especially if you read the instructions first!
– the clear design of all components makes it easy to see if milk is flowing through the pump properly
– The pump bottle is compatible with my Philips Avent teats
The only negative I experienced was to do with the valve. First of all I had it in the wrong way (pays to read the instructions first), and naturally the suction does not work when the valve is inserted incorrectly. Secondly, after correct insertion the pump became dislodged half way through pumping and had to be taken out and re-inserted. As the valve is quite fiddly to insert some thought could be given to improving this aspect of the product in the future.
Overall I was very impressed with the pump and will continue to use it and would recommend it to others looking for a simple, effective breastpump that is painless to use even if you have issues with arthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome.
This morning was my first go at using the Avent manual breast pump and I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to use. I already have an electric and a manual breast pump (both different brands) and it has been great to compare the 3 different brands.
I particularly liked the fact that the Avent is completely clear allowing you to see the milk flowing through from the breast to the bottle (some have frosted components that don’t allow this). The Avent is extremely comfortable, pain free and isn’t too large and clunky, which makes for good handling.
In regards to assembly and cleaning again, it is easy to pull apart and put back together quickly, which is a bonus when you are time-poor and trying to fit in time to express.
I’d definitely recommend the Avent manual to other mums.
I recieved my Phillips AVENT Manual Breast pump today and i must say i am vry impressed!
It is so easy to assemble and much easier to use than I expected.
The soft “petal” cushion makes it more comfortable.
I have been using a commercial pump since my daughter arrived 8wks ago prem and i will now use this instead as i found it easier and more comfortable and i will recommend it to any one looking to use a pump in the future.
It’s been a few days now since my Philips AVENT manual breastpump arrived on the doorstep and I must say I’m a little impressed with it! I’m doing my very best to breastfeed my third baby at the moment and after differing amounts of success feeding my first 2, I think the AVENT pump may have given me the edge this time around. I’ve previously used an electric pump but never tried a manual one before now and I like the amount of control it gives me in regards to how much pressure I can use and how quickly/slowly I can pump. It’s really helped increase my supply over the last few days and I’m using it between feeds, several times a day.
I have been using the Advent Manual Breast pump for a few days now. It is easy to use, although I couldn’t get a good seal with the cushion bit attached so I took it off and it worked much better. I don’t have a great milk supply (ie. never get engorged) and I have found using he pump has been awesome to help increase my milk suply in between feeds. I have now started to freeze some breast milk for extra supply (or so bub’s dad can help with the occasional feed). So far so good and I would recommend it to other mums. It is easy to put together and pull apart to clean.
My Philips AVENT Manual Breast Pump arrived in the mail yesterday. The instructions were very clear and easy to follow…. so after not much time I was able to wash and sterilise it ready for use.
Here are my inital thoughts:
After feeding my baby first thing this morning I decided to give the pump a go – I hadn’t used a breast pump until this one. I found the pump very easy to use and comfortable…. no pain at all and it hardly took any time at all for the milk to start flowing. I really like the petal-shaped cushions against the breast – it is soft and the slight pressure/massage they give when pumping is similar to the feeling when my baby is feeding.
So far, so good!! 🙂

‘They Taste Amazing, I’ll Definitely Be Stocking Up Again’
Having three young kids, juggling their commitments and her own as a school teacher means Kristie Young’s days revolve around snacking on-the-go. And she admits she’s not always reaching for the best options! So she was thrilled to try out new Nice & Natural Deluxe Protein Bars and says she’ll be restocking next time she’s shopping.
Kristie is right in the middle of one her busiest seasons of life – juggling three kids (two at school), a job, partner and household. But this year, she’s made a commitment to herself.
“I’m always running around. Always a million things on my to do list, but wouldn’t have it any other way.” Kristie told Mouths of Mums.
“But I’m turning 40 this year and I thought I really need to start prioritising myself, because for the last seven years, I’ve been pregnant, breastfeeding, busy with the kids, I have not looked after myself at all.
“So this year, I’m really starting to get back into my own fitness journey, health journey, and eating a lot better and starting to eat more regularly and eat more protein filled meals and snacks that will fill me up. So I’m not just reaching for sugary snacks, especially around that afternoon, where I’m getting tired from being awake with the baby all night and just finding myself reaching for junk in the cupboard.”
A self-confessed snacker, Kristie says her snacking habit is worse during school holidays when she’s constantly making in-between meals for the kids. So she decided to give Nice & Natural Deluxe Protein Bars a try, as part of the Mouths of Mums review team.
“They were actually filling. I like that they had eight grams of protein, because that’s something that I’m really trying to increase this year, having more protein. And they taste amazing, which is obviously great and I like that they have chocolate, because normally in the afternoon, I’m reaching for something sugary, something chocolatey, and this way I know I’m getting that protein hit as well. So they’re a bit more filling.
“They help me last until dinner time without reaching for all these other little snacks in between.”
“I also like that they’re easy to take out and about. So when I’m doing kinder drop off, dancing. I always pack snacks and food for the kids and forget myself. It’s been good put myself first and have something in the bag and on the go for me too.”
Nice & Natural Deluxe Protein Bars not only satisfy those constant cravings throughout the day, they’re temptingly tasty. With layers of nuts and soy crisps and enveloped in milk or dark chocolate, it’s every sweet-tooth’s dream.
“I’ve tried quite a few different protein bars, and some of them I don’t like the aftertaste or the textures too hard. Whereas I found this had a nice amount of crunch, the flavour was really nice, and the perfect amount of chocolate too.”
With three delectable flavours to choose from, Nice & Natural Deluxe Protein Bars make mum me-time an indulgent treat, with no artificial flavours or colours:
Salted Caramel, Cashew & Choc: Crunchy cashews, peanuts and soy crisps, topped with a delicious caramel layer and coated in rich milk choc.
Cookies & Cream Dark Choc: Crunchy peanuts and soy crisps, topped with a delicious cream layer and coated in rich dark choc.
Almond & Double Choc: Crunchy almonds, peanuts and soy crisps, topped with a delicious white choc layer and coated in rich milk choc.
How amazing do these flavours sound?! Kristie tried a couple of the flavours, and for her the Salted Caramel, Cashew & Choc was an absolute standout!
“I’ve got the Almond & Double Choc, which I love and Salted Caramel, Cashew & Choc. And at first I thought this one might be too sweet with the salted caramel, but it’s actually not. It’s perfect, the perfect balance. Probably my favourite!’
“They’re so good for having the desk draw at work, those little snacks. I’m not just reaching for sugary rubbish. I know they’ve got protein, especially in the afternoon, when I am running low on energy from being kept awake all night. It’s good to have these in the drawer and just have one each day, which I’m enjoying, something to look forward to at work.
“I’m putting them on the shopping list, so when I run out of these, I’m off to get some more for myself. My partner tried them, and he’s approved them. He wants some too. I said he can’t have my stash, so I know I’ll definitely be stocking up again at the supermarket. I’m recommending them and really enjoying them.”
